A district-level party leader is allegedly forcing civil judge Ankit Goel — who took suo motu cognizance against the remarks that Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav made regarding gang rapes and summoned him to appear before court on September 16 — out of his accommodation.
A 29 second audio recording of the threatening phone call has surfaced where Samajwadi Party Yuvjan Sabha district president Bhagirathi Yadav is heard telling Goel’s landlord, Sunil Kumar Agarwal, to evict his tenant.
HT contacted Agarwal who said, “I got a call around 9.30 pm on the same night (the day when the summons was issued). I have not asked the judge to vacate my premises yet, but have informed him in writing about the phone call. He may be a judge, but here, I am the landlord. I will have to issue a notice to him to vacate the house. I have no problem with the judge otherwise… He has been my tenant for 13 months.”
Mulayam had recently courted controversy when he said in Lucknow that “a rape by four people was not practically possible.” In his order Goel said prima facie the statement appears to be insulting, provocative and against the dignity of women.
The SP chief had sparked outrage last year too, when he had described rapists as boys who make “mistakes.”
