Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir – On the night of 31 July in Kulgam, Kashmir, two jihadi terrorists opened fire on two migrant Hindu labourers from Chhattisgarh who were working at a brick kiln, after asking their names. One labourer died at the scene while the second succumbed during treatment. The incident occurred in the Keelam area, approximately 20 kilometres from Kulgam.

The deceased youths have been identified as 24-year-old Deepak Ratre and 28-year-old Bhupendra. Following the incident, security forces have cordoned off the entire area and are checking vehicles. The terrorists arrived on a motorcycle; one was armed with an AK-47 rifle and the other with a pistol. Both fled after the attack. According to preliminary information, a few days earlier, one of the terrorists had shot and killed a policeman from Anantnag who was deployed for the security of the Amarnath Yatra.
Only the Hindu labourers were separated and killed
According to the police, the attack was carried out in the same manner as the Pahalgam incident. The terrorists first asked the migrant labourers their names. Thereafter they separated the two Hindu labourers from the group and fired at them from close range. Several migrant labourers were present at the time, but only these two were Hindus were killed. Police sources state that the terrorists first gathered complete information and then executed the attack.
‘The Resistance Front’ again behind the attack
According to sources, there is suspicion of the involvement of one local and one foreign terrorist in this attack. The preliminary investigation is focused on Mohammad Latif. He had joined Lashkar-e-Taiba’s ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF) organisation last year. The Pahalgam attack was also carried out by the same organisation.
State government announces assistance of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased
Following the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, announced an ex-gratia assistance of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the deceased Hindu labourers.
