Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad seeks urgent action over unhygienic public toilets in Kolhapur

Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad writes to the Kolhapur Municipal Commissioner

Kolhapur, Maharashtra – Sanitation facilities are an essential amenity of any city and must be maintained in good condition. However, in Kolhapur—home to Shri Mahalakshmidevi Temple, which is one of the Shakti Peethas, the condition of public toilets and urinals at several important and crowded locations is utterly deplorable. These locations include the Municipal Corporation area, Bindu Chowk, the Circuit Bench of the Bombay High Court, the Chhatrapati Pramilraje complex, Shahupuri, Rajarampuri, and other prominent parts of the city.

The deplorable condition of public toilets in Kolhapur.

When questioned in this regard, the municipal administration has answered that these facilities are cleaned by the employees of the health department, but upon seeing the actual condition of these toilets, one is compelled to ask, “What kind of cleaning are these employees actually carrying out?”

Therefore, considering this issue related to the health of Kolhapur’s citizens, the Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad has written a letter to the Municipal Commissioner of Kolhapur demanding immediate improvement of public sanitation facilities and fixing accountability for their deplorable condition, followed by action against the concerned officials.

Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar

In the letter, the National President of the Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, has made the following demands:

  • The municipal administration should inspect all public urinals and toilets, carry out immediate cleaning, and undertake necessary construction and repair work.
  • Necessary directional signboards should be installed to identify these facilities, and the expenses incurred should be recovered from the contractors responsible for their maintenance.
  • An inquiry should be conducted into the administrative officials responsible for neglecting public health in this manner, and punitive action should be taken against them.
