Hindu Janajagruti Samiti demands immediate scriptural immersion and strict action against responsible officials.

Navi Mumbai – It has come to light that even after nearly three months since the conclusion of Ganeshotsav, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has still not immersed thousands of Shri Ganesh idols collected from devotees. These idols are lying in parking areas and other locations kept in conditions unworthy of sacred idols, which amounts to a clear insult to Hindu religious sentiments.

In response to this serious situation, Shri. Sunil Ghanwat, Maharashtra State Organiser of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, submitted a written memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, demanding immediate action against the officers and individuals responsible. The memorandum was received by Additional Commissioner Mr. Sunil Pawar on behalf of the administration.

The Samiti further stated that similar negligence regarding idol immersion could very well be occurring within the jurisdictions of other municipal corporations across the state. Therefore, it is imperative that the State Government intervene without delay and, keeping in mind the religious sentiments of Hindus, issue directives to carry out scripturally appropriate re-immersion of all collected idols.
This year, on the first day of Ganeshotsav itself, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation dumped hundreds of truckloads of Ganesh idols near garbage heaps at the dumping ground in Daighar, Thane. Following strong protests by local villagers, more than 150 dumpers had to be brought back. Similar incidents have previously occurred in Pune, Satara and other districts, where idols were discarded in improper places such as creeks, drains, quarries and old wells. All these incidents have caused deep resentment among devotees of Shri Ganesh and hurt Hindu religious sentiments.
Shri. Sunil Ghanwat said, “The disrespect shown towards Shri Ganesh idols is unacceptable. The administration must take this issue seriously. In the future, the idols collected after immersion should be immersed properly and ritually. The government should formulate a policy that aligns with Hindu traditions and religious sentiments by consulting Hindu organizations, saints, and religious leaders. Also, the idols currently held by various municipal corporations should be immersed immediately in a pure and proper manner, and strict action should be taken against officials who have insulted Hindu faith.”
