HJS Protests against Religion-based ‘Sukoon Empire – Halal Township’ near Karjat

Ban the religion-based housing projects like ‘Sukoon Empire – Halal Township’ near Karjat ! – Demand by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has strongly opposed the religion-based housing project ‘Sukoon Empire – Halal Lifestyle Township’ coming up at Neral near Karjat in Raigad district. Since this project is being advertised as ‘only for Muslims’, it is completely against the Constitution, law, and social harmony. Therefore, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded, through a memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister, as well as the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and State Development Minister of Maharashtra, that this project be immediately banned. Along with the Samiti, like-minded organizations held a Hindu Rashtra Awakening Protest on 9th September near Karjat Post Office. Representatives of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Shivpratishthan Hindustan, Gorakshak Dal-Khalapur, Sanatan Sanstha, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, and nationalist, devout citizens were present during the agitation.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also taken serious note of this issue and issued a notice to the Maharashtra Government. The Commission has stated that the project spreads poison in society and attempts to create a ‘nation within a nation’. It has further directed the State Government to submit an action report within two weeks.

The Samiti clarified that religion-based projects like ‘Sukoon Empire’ violate Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, as they discriminate on the basis of religion. Further, as per the Real Estate (RERA) Act, advertisements must be non-discriminatory and transparent. However, since this project is being promoted exclusively for one religion, it is in violation of the law. Such religion-based colonies increase artificial divisions in society and pose a threat to social peace, the Samiti stated.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded that,

  1. The government immediately conduct a high-level inquiry and take strict action against those responsible.
  2. The MahaRERA license of the developer should be cancelled, and accountability should be fixed on the officials in the administration who granted permission to the project.
  3. An independent inquiry should also be conducted into how such a large project escaped the notice of the local administration and intelligence agencies.
  4. The financial sources used for the project, especially FCRA and CSR funds, should be investigated in a transparent manner.

The Samiti has also demanded that in the future, such projects should be completely banned, and the Maharashtra Government should announce a clear policy for inclusive urban planning. It further said that just as Uttar Pradesh has banned halal certification to curb a parallel economy, Maharashtra should also immediately ban religion-based housing projects and take concrete steps to preserve social unity.

Sukoon Empire : MBMC cracks down on builders, warns of permission cancellation over ‘Muslim-Only’ Housing ads

9th September 2025

Mumbai – The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has taken strict action against builders accused of promoting religion-based housing projects.

Notices have been issued to developers who were allegedly trying to sell houses exclusively to Muslim buyers through targeted advertisements.

The MBMC has issued notices to two builders of Mira Road, the Leena Group and RR Builders, along with their architects. The Leena Group came under fire for advertising “Qibla-facing” features in its project, while RR Builders, too, was named in the action.

The corporation stated in its notice that such advertisements go against the Constitution of India, specifically Articles 14 and 15, which guarantee equality and prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion. The notice also highlighted that these ads create a religious divide and could disturb social harmony.

The MBMC directed the builders to immediately stop such advertisements and asked them to submit a clarification on the matter. The notice warned that if the builders fail to provide a satisfactory explanation, the municipal body would withdraw permissions granted to their projects.

Sukoon Empire – Halal Lifestyle Township to come up in Karjat

5th September 2025

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has been at the forefront in creating awareness on the insidious ways that the Hala Economy is challenging and eating away at the national economy. While most people were under the impression that Halal was restricted to food, the HJS exposed the breadth and depth of the Halal economy which covers food, clothing, hospitals, and even housing. Now, a “Halal Lifestyle Township” project near Mumbai named Sukoon Empire and promoted as offering a safe, community-focused environment tailored to Muslim families, has ignited intense public and political controversy. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has responded by demanding a report from the Maharashtra government.

A promotional video, features a hijabi woman speaking about raising children in a “Halal environment” among “like-minded families”. Sukoon Empire (from the Urudu word meaning peace or tranquility), is projected by the woman as a safe haven to profess “own values”, and the video went viral after being shared by NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo on September 1, 2025. He called evidence of communal segregation and a “Nation within the Nation.” The project has been criticised by BJP and Shiv Sena leaders who have termed it land jihad.

HJS demands that the Maha govt should stop the ongoing work on Sukoon Empire.

Sunil Ghanwat (Maharashtra and Chattisgarh Organiser, HJS) said, it is competely wrong to have housing that is based on religion. This is a part of the Halal economy which is trying to set up a parallel economy in the nation. Earlier, there would be a huge hue and cry if a Muslim person was denied rental space or land in Mumbai, but now an entire project is coming up in absolute silence. This religiously segregated project may give rise to far more serious issues in future. So the government should pay immediate attention and shut down the project. Everyone involved should be questioned thoroughly.

Building a Halal community space is a type of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ : Vishva Hindu Parishad

Karjat (Raigadh) – “Sukoon Empire, a Halal-based lifestyle society, is being built at Karjat, Raigadh District, Maharashtra. This is a form of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’. Societies based on a particular religion cannot be built. Hindus are being persecuted and are fleeing from the surrounding areas. This is the kind of environment that is being created. The numbers of a particular community are increasing in this area”, stated Mr Shyam Kadav, Block Minister of Vishva Hindu Parishad.

He further said, “Sajjad Nomani who gave the call for ‘Vote Jihad’ has a Madarasa in this area. A Pakistani Maulana (Islamic teacher) comes to meet him. This group has closed the entrance roads to Neral. They are trying to do in Neral what they tried to do in Padgha village, by making it an Islamic State. Neral has become a ‘Mini Pakistan’.

Ravindra Bhoir, Secretary of the Shetkari Kamgar Paksha said, “It would be wrong to give permission for constructing a building only for one religious community, when secularism is being practised in India. The Maharashtra Government should take action in this matter.”
