Tirupati, May 30, 2025 : The Global Hindu Heritage Foundation (GHHF) has strongly opposed the construction of a Yusuff Ali’s Lulu Mall in Tirupati, warning that it threatens the sanctity of Tirumala and nearby Hindu temples. In a letter to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, GHHF appealed to relocate the project beyond a 75 km radius from Tirumala, highlighting concerns over potential demographic shifts, religious tensions, and desanctification of the sacred region.
Yusuff Ali, the Chairman of Lulu Group recently announced plans to build international-standard malls in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati, including an 8-screen IMAX multiplex and food logistics hubs. GHHF warned that such developments in Tirupati — a gateway to the revered Tirumala temple — could lead to social unrest, Love Jihad threats, forced conversions, and erosion of Hindu religious traditions.
Citing a recent namaz incident on Tirumala Hills, GHHF demanded that the state government declare Tirumala-Tirupati-Tiruchanur a Divya Kshetra, similar to Vatican or Mecca, to protect its spiritual sanctity. They proposed restricting non-Hindu commercial and religious activities within a 30-mile radius.
Despite submitting a detailed memorandum on April 20, 2025, GHHF stated they have not received a response from the state government. The group continues to call for public awareness and peaceful action to safeguard the spiritual and cultural identity of Tirupati.
