Kozhencherry : The police have arrested an absconding evangelist for harassing a married woman and recording her in the nude on his mobile phone. Samuel John (50) was absconding for more than three years after his former living-in partner accused him of stealing money and clicking her naked photographs.

John, a native of Kallooppara, had been staying with a married woman from Payippad for three months from January 2012 until the police traced her to their rented house at Pullad near Tiruvalla.

The woman’s husband had complained at the Koyipram police station that his wife was missing. The woman was eventually sent with her husband. She later lodged a complaint that John had stolen Rs 17,000 from her and clicked her nude photos.

John fled his home after the police registered a case against him under the Information Technology Act. A police team led by Kozhencherry circle inspector S. Vidyadharan finally zeroed in on the absconder last week after a dramatic chase. Acting on a tip off, the team went to a house at Kodungur in plain clothes.

They met a woman who introduced herself as John’s mother, who told them that the suspect had gone out on a motorbike. They located John in the streets but he sensed trouble and sought refuge in the Ponkunnam police station. The team from Kozhencherry later took him into custody from the Ponkunnam police station.
