Fort building during Deepavali

What is meant by ‘building of fort’?

Construction or building of fort is a ritual followed during Deepavali (Diwali). It symbolises generation of radiance of Divine Energy in our mind and intellect. Hence we can imbibe Divine radiance through the medium of construction of fort.

Why do children build the forts?

Children are pure in mind and heart. It is said that the children are symbols of God, because their minds do not carry any impressions. Children up to 11 years of age are innocent. But after that they carry out any task by using their intellect. Children have capacity to absorb the energy emitted from Divine Principle.

Why is the fort built outside the house?

During Deepavali (Diwali) every house is geared up to welcome Lakshmi, the Goddess who bestows prosperity. Such house where She resides is sign of prosperity. To safeguard this prosperity in the house, a fort is built outside the house. This fort stands for radiance of a warrior which is best explained by Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharaj as an example, and is inseparable from such a king who follows righteous conduct and heads the fort.
