Chaitra Krushna Saptami
Nagpur (Maharashtra): On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, a program was arranged to recite ‘Hanuman Stotra’ collectively. Prior permission was taken for the program on 6th April; even then, the organizers were asked to shift the venue to a hall or temple. (How Muslims are allowed to read ‘namaz’ on the roads? What is the connection between code of conduct and recitation of Hanuman Stotra? Tomorrow, they may ban Hindus from celebrating their festivals under the pretext of code of conduct! – Editor)
The organizers, however, were firm on their decision to hold the program on the road and therefore, case has been filed against Shri. Devendra Phadanavis, a MLA of BJP and 14 persons. The above news has been published in one of the newspapers (It is obvious that police are dancing to somebody’s tune and withdrawing the permission earlier granted by them! – Editor) The program was supposed to be over by 7.30 a.m. and no problem would have been caused for the traffic. Further, due care was taken to hold the program as per the code of conduct. Police, however, received 18 complaints that the saffron flags displayed in the area could cause breach of code of conduct. It is being said that based on these complaints, permission was withdrawn.
Police Commissioner Pravin Dixit said that religious programs should be held in temples or on grounds. Permission can not be granted to hold such programs on the roads. The program, if held on the road, can inflame people’s religious sentiments. (How then ‘namaz’ is allowed on the roads? Are we in Pakistan that recitation of ‘Maruti Stotra’ would provoke religious sentiments? – Editor)
Dixit said that ban was imposed on display of flags since the situation can get worse if any of the flags fall on the ground or get torn. It is, however, said that only due to complaints lodged by Congress the permission was cancelled at the last moment (Can the secular Congress, that opposes Hindu religious programs, dare to stop Muslims from reading ‘namaz? Dethrone this Congress for stifling Hindus from holding religious programs! – Editor)
We shall hold programs in every chowk if right to religious freedom is suppressed – MLA Phadanavis
We have not undertaken any illegal work. Permission was earlier granted but was later withdrawn due to pressure tactics of someone. We shall give an apt reply if police behave in such manner. We give a damn to such pressure. We are law-abiding people. If, however, police take away our right of religious freedom, we shall conduct this kind of programs in every chowk. The above views were expressed by Shri. Devendra Phadanavis, BJP MLA
