Ram Sena protests against propagation of Christianity

HUBLI: Activists of Sri Ram Sena, Hubli unit, took out a procession in the city, to protest against the alleged propagation of Christianity in the Tirupati temple, here on Tuesday.

The members took out a procession from Dajibaanpeth that passed through the main roads of the city to culminate at KC Circle. They burnt the effigies of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Rajashekhar Reddy, for ‘encouraging’ Christianity in the Tirupati temple.

They said the Venkateshwara temple in Tirupati was considered as the most sacred religious place for the Hindus in the country. However, with the support of the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh, at the behest of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, some elements were engaged in conversion and propagating Christianity in the Tirupati temple, they alleged.

They further alleged that a portion of the land surrounding the Venkateshwara temple in Tirupati, was ‘gobbled up’ by the government to ‘spare it for a non-Hindu community’. The move of the Andhra Pradesh government regarding propagation of Christianity in Tirupati was ‘hurting’ the sentiments of Hindus in the country, they said.

The protestors, in a memorandum, have urged the President of India, A P J Abdul Kalam to look into the matter seriously and take measures to dismiss the Andhra Pradesh government led by Rajashekhar Reddy, to protect the dignity of Hinduism.

Pramod Acharya and Manjunath Patil led the agitation and a large number of members participated in the procession. In Dharwad too, members of the Hindu Sena, Dharwad unit, took out a procession, to protest against the alleged propagation of Christianity in the Tirupati temple, on Tuesday.
