   1. Lokamanya Tilak : ‘Hindi tops the list of languages which are simple and easy to learn.’

2. Subramanyam Bharati  : If unity has to be maintained in this country, its medium can only be Hindi.

3. Swatantryaveer Savarkar : ‘Instead of suggesting Marathi, we have been saying for the past 20-25 years, that only Hindi has the right to be a national language in Hindustan and we have been propagating for Hindi. Moreover, if all regional languages are ready to leave their regions and best literature in such languages is translated in Hindi, there will be no fear of causing harm to national literature and if someone had invented a machine which would drown all regional languages in sea by pressing a button, we are ready to sacrifice Marathi in favour of Hindi. We will stop talking about Marathi, if it comes in the way of progress of national language; but in the present situation, existence of regional languages being unavoidable, if attempts are made to eliminate those languages, it will cause more harm than benefit. It is, therefore, necessary to give secondary importance to regional languages and is expected by people from all regions. Till other regional Hindu languages exist, it is necessary to keep Marathi alive and develop. We are of course proud of Marathi; but we are more proud of Hindi being our national language.

The above views were of great patriotic, revolutionary and literary person like Swa. Savarkar, who strove whole of his life for purification of language and who, created literature in Marathi of more than 10,000 pages. The above will show importance of national language over mother tongue.
