Mumbai: A sports complex in Mumbai was named after 18th-century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan. The sports complex in Mumbai’s Malad is to be inaugurated by Congress leader and guardian minister of Mumbai Aslam Shaikh in his constituency on January 26.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and other Hindu organisations submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Chief Minister with the demand to change the name of the sports complex.
@CMOMaharashtra यांच्याकडे मागणी pic.twitter.com/nQnHl0bP5Y

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the BJP have objected to the inauguration of the complex, saying that naming a project after a “brutal barbaric anti-Hindu” is condemnable.
“This definitely is with an intention of ruining the peace of our Mumbai and could have been avoided. Our Maharashtra is a Sant Bhoomi and naming a project in the name of a brutal, barbaric anti-Hindu is condemnable,” VHP spokesperson Shriraj Nair tweeted.

The Maharashtra BJP also tweeted a photo of the sports complex and slammed Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for naming the park after Tipu Sultan “who massacred thousands of Hindus and destroyed Hindu temples”.
“We left the BJP, not Hindutva- CM @OfficeofUT ji. So, who have you named a park in Mumbai in the name of ‘Tipu Sultan’ who massacred thousands of Hindus and destroyed Hindu temples? Has @ShivSena started liking Tipu Sultan?” the Maharashtra BJP tweeted.
