To,

2. The Hon'ble Information and Broadcasting Minister, Union Govt of India

Subject : To ban the broadcast of the Assamese serial 'Begum Jaan' on Rengoni TV for disturbing social harmony

Respectes Sir(s),

I came to know from social media that a new Assamese serial named 'Begum Jaan' has started on Rengoni TV channel from 6 July. It is a story about a Hindu Brahmin girl marrying a Muslim person and issues faced by her due to this marriage. My religious sentiments as a Hindu are hurt due to this serial as it promotes Love Jihad, which poses a serious threat to communal and social harmony.

The telecast of the said serial can create unrest among peace-loving Hindus and further it may fuel communal tensions between the 2 communities. Many Hindu organisations have already protested against the serial on social media and at ground level too.

Hence I request you to take immediate steps to stop the telecast of 'Begum Jaan' serial and to take appropriate action against makers and actors of the said serial.

Thanking you,

As per the introduction given on TV, the ‘Begum Jaan’ serial is about a Hindu Brahmin girl who marries a Muslim man, because of which her family and society deny her marriage.

It is clear from the plot of the serial that it promotes Love Jihad. Until now, thousands of cases of Love Jihad have been unearthed and in most of the cases, Hindu girls have had to first convert and then suffer physical and mental abuse etc after their marriage.

The telecast of the said serial can create unrest among peace loving Hindus and further it may fuel communal tensions between 2 communities.

Many Hindu organisations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch in Assam have started protest against this serial and have demand that Rengoni TV stop broadcasting the same. Netizens are protesting against this serial using hashtags #BoycottBegumJaan, #BanBegumJaan , #BoycottRengoniTV
