Assam : Hindus demand ban on TV serial ‘Begum Jaan’ promoting Love Jihad

Recently an Assamese serial on Rengoni TV named ‘Begum Jaan’ has created lot of controversy as Hindus have alleged that it promotes Love Jihad and at many places Hindus have protested against it. At some places, Hindus have filed police complaints against the makers and actors of this serial.

As per the introduction given on TV, the ‘Begum Jaan’ serial is about a Hindu Brahmin girl who marries a Muslim man, because of which her family and society deny her marriage.

It is clear from the plot of the serial that it promotes Love Jihad. Until now, thousands of cases of Love Jihad have been unearthed and in most of the cases, Hindu girls have had to first convert and then suffer physical and mental abuse etc after their marriage.

The telecast of the said serial can create unrest among peace loving Hindus and further it may fuel communal tensions between 2 communities.

Many Hindu organisations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch in Assam have started protest against this serial and have demand that Rengoni TV stop broadcasting the same. Netizens are protesting against this serial using hashtags #BoycottBegumJaan, #BanBegumJaan , #BoycottRengoniTV

Demand

Many Hindus fear that this serial which promotes Love Jihad may create law and order issues as the said serial can create communal tensions. Hence we demand that the Administration should take

  • Immediate steps to stop the telecast of ‘Begum Jaan’ serial
  • Appropriate action against makers and actors of the said serial

FIR has been launched against the Serial ‘Begum Jaan’ by Yuva Bahini Assam today at North Guwahati Police Station.

A letter issued by the All Assam Brahmin Youth Council with the demand to stop the serial”Begum Jaan”.
