Bengaluru : NIA recovers arms, material used for making IEDs from JMB terrorist

Bengaluru : NIA has recovered fabrication material meant for IEDs, hand grenades and other incriminating material based on disclosures made by Burdwan blast accused Habibur Rehman who was arrested in Bengaluru last month.

On the disclosure of Rehman, a member of proscribed outfit Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), NIA recovered five fabricated hand grenades, one timer device, three electric circuits, suspected explosive substance, different components for making IEDs/rockets and several other incriminating materials from a place under Soladevenahalli police station in Bengaluru on Sunday. These hand grenades were fabricated as a part of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in different parts of the state, NIA said on Tuesday.

Rehman was arrested in Bengaluru on June 25 and remanded in police custody by an NIA court in Kolkata. He was earlier charge-sheeted as an absconder in the Burdwan blast case. While evading arrest as absconder, he was a part of a JMB module that intended to wage war against the democratic set-up of the state by conspiring to commit terrorist acts, said NIA.

Rehman along with other members of JMB allegedly raised funds to give shape to the conspiracy by committing a string of dacoities in Bengaluru during 2018.

The latest recovery of IEDs and hand grenades was effected with Rehman on police remand. A fresh case was registered against him and other JMB cadres on Monday under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and IPC.
