Hyderabad : Controversial Telugu film critic Kathi Mahesh, who kicked up a storm with his alleged derogatory remarks against Lord Ram a week ago, was banished from Hyderabad for six months by Telangana Police.
Apprehending a law and order crisis, police decided to extern him from the state capital and pack him off to his native district, Chittoor, in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Police feared Kathi Mahesh may get bail if arrested and trigger unrest at a time rightwing activists were drawing battle lines in the city.
Telangana Police also slapped a notice on a prominent Telugu television channel for violating Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act by repeatedly playing out Mahesh’s controversial comments.
But the film critic may not be welcome even on home turf with top police sources in Andhra Pradesh hinting Mahesh would be bundled out to a neighbouring state. Andhra Pradesh DGP, R P Thakur told TOI in Vijayawada that AP Police had no information about Mahesh being handed over to them by Telangana police.
