New Delhi: Government on Friday said the execution of death sentence of Afzal Guru, convicted in the Parliament attack case, was being delayed as "you cannot pick, choose and hang" and there were many mercy petitions pending for long.

Rejecting BJP's charge of delay in hanging Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said a certain procedure has to be followed.

Mumbai: Comprehensive discussion is possible on the option of giving life imprisonment to Afzal, expressed Central Home Minister, Shri. P. Chidambaram.

The Congress-led government has been found double faced on the issue.

New Delhi: The Home Ministry sat over Afzal Guru's mercy petition and did not send its recommendation to President A P J Abdul Kalam till his last day in office, it has been disclosed now.

While answering question regarding the mercy plea of Mohammed Afzal, Kalam said, 'Regarding Afzal Guru, I have not received any papers from the ministry concerned so far'.
