The headline of the story "India gets its first woman saint", run by many newspapers, both Indian and Western, is very misleading. For India has never been short of saints.

Every Hindu is the inheritor of the only surviving spiritual knowledge which at the moment is under a concerted attack by Christian missionaries, Americanisation, Marxism and Islamic fundamentalism.

Hindus never complain about their government giving billion of rupees to Indian Muslims for the pilgrimage to Mecca. But when Hindus need some facilities to worship at Amarnath, it is denied by the same government. So they erupt in fury.

One cannot call today's India a declining civilisation, although it has suffered tremendously from invasions in the last 1,500 years. Indeed, India is one of the few civilisations today which has managed -- albeit in a diluted manner -- to retain intact much of her culture and spirituality from the Vedic ages.
