While there are no immediate reports of any deaths, sources say at least four people have been injured.
PK Agarwal, Additional District Magistrate of Gorakhpur, said four people were injured in the attacks.
According to sources, the first blast took place at a petrol pump, the second at a shoe shop and the third hit a hotel, called York. "There are no critical injuries. Only 4 persons are critically injured," Agarwal said.
There were no deaths in the incident and the injured are being treated in a local hospital, he said. "The three bombs went off in a series. First one hit the Dalkal Building, second blast occurred at Baldev Plaza in the main market while the third one went off at Ganesh Chauraha," the ADM said.
The blasts occurred within 500 meters of each other. The first bomb went off at around 1840 hrs (IST) and was followed by other two in gap of five minutes. Initial reports indicate the bombs were planted in gunny bags on bicycle parked in the market area.
When asked who could be held responsible for the blasts Aggarwal said, "Its too early to point to anyone. We are busy trying to avert any further possible explosion." The areas have been cordoned off. Gorapkhpur has a history of violence and communal unrest.
In January 2007, communal tension erupted in Gorakhpur on the eve of the Muharram. BJP MP Yogi Adityanath was arrested on charges of inciting communal violence. Several coaches of the Mumbai-bound Mumbai-Gorakhpur-Godan Express were allegedly by Yogi's supporters.
