If Afzal is hanged, the judges might get murdered: ex-J&K CM Abdullah

October 15, 2006

New Delhi: Abdullah says if Afzal is hanged, the judges might get murdered too.

The debate over whether or not Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal should be hanged continues. Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah has warned that if the death sentence is carried out it could well have dangerous consequences.

Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN's Karan Thapar on Devil's Advocate, Abdullah said: "We have paid the price of Maqbool Butt's hanging by the judge who was shot in Kashmir. Let me be very candid on this programme those judges will need to be protected like anything."

Abdullah has warned that some crook will come and murder the judges.

"Therefore my request in your programme is that for God's sake, see that they are protected. One. Secondly, I will tell you this nation will go up in flames because the terrorists will do such things that will destroy the relationships of the Hindus and the Muslims here," he added.

Abdullah said that the hanging of Mohammed Afzal, convicted for the 2001 attack, would turn him into a "a hero" and provide "a massive weapon to the separatists".

Abdullah argued that if clemency was not shown to Afzal "you will be making him a hero for centuries to come". Afzal is due to hang October 20.

"He's a man who is least important at this time. Secondly, you are going to give a massive weapon to the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. The separatists are (already) saying this is the way they (India) treat Kashmiris," Abdullah said.

Taking a rather contradictory statement, Abdullah first insisted that Afzal was "innocent", and later on went to assert that the conviction was correct but the punishment "extreme".

"The unfortunate problem is the lower court, which had given the sentence. If he Afzal had got the right lawyer at that stage I'm confident that his case would have been proved that he is not directly involved in this.

"He himself was never there in the Parliament House. The point is the evidence put forward by the police is not absolutely infallible."

Abdullah claimed that another consequence of hanging Afzal would be the damage to the India-Pakistan peace process.

The National Conference leader even feared that if Afzal is hanged the judges who convicted and sentenced him could be "murdered".

"This nation will go up in flames because the terrorists will do such things which will destroy the relationship between the Hindus and Muslims here. Kashmir will anyway go up in flames. There will be turmoil which India will have to face."

While voices of dissent have emerged from the Kashmir Valley Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad even reportedly approached Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking Afzal's clemency there have been hot protests in Delhi and elsewhere.

Afzal, convicted for aiding five terrorists who stormed the Parliament December 13, 2001, was sentenced to death by a trial court, and the Supreme Court had later upheld the verdict. (Source: CNN-IBN)

Editor's Comment:-
1. Farooq Abdullah is warning Indians for the cause of a terrorist. If he is so much concerned about secularism, then has he ever stood or will stand for Kashmiri Pandits? This means that he is supporting Islamic terrorism in the guise of secularism.
2. If judges can be murdered for convicting terrorists, then what is use of Government, Police and the security forces? By this rule, terrorists must not be convicted for safety of judges and allowed to kill Indians at their will.
3. Mr. Abdullah claims that execution of a terrorist will set nation on flames. Does that mean all Muslims in nation are supporting terrorist Afzal and they themselves are terrorists to burn this nation?
4. Abdullah thinks Afzal is innocent. On what basis did he come to such a false conclusion? Who is the appropriate authority to decide this? - Supreme Court or Farooq Abdullah? Why is the police not arresting him for supporting terrorist and contempt of the Supreme Court?

7 men have sacrificed their lives for Bharat, Anyone should be prepared to give them justice. Agreed that a judges life could be at risk, but to murder this one lifeless, idiotic murderer Afzal, you never know, it could save hundreds, possibly millions from another attack. I understand the judges point in all this, he, no one to be honest, would actually call death to their doorstep. No one is readdy to welcome death.

As far as Farooq Abdullah is concerned, he better think twice,
WHAT PEACE PROTEST IS HE ON ABOUT?
As far as i know, there is no successful peace protest to help the Hindu, Muslim hatred. However, i must say i appreciate his fairness, despite that man being Muslim he gave a fair sentence.

With all due respect to the judge who has sentenced Afzal to death. I must say, you have done Bharat a big favour by giving justice to those 7 men who GAVE their lives for their country.

first of all i want to say that our PRIME MINISTER AND PRESIDENT ARE HIJRAS (NOT MEN NOT WOMEN) because even after supreme court has ordered death for afzal (xxxxxxxx)these HIJRAS are trying to save him only because of xxxxxx POLITICS if this kind was a situation was in pakistan (xxxxxxxx country)the suspect's each and every organ was removed from his body like pakistani army(xxxxxxx ARMY)has done with 5 indian soldiers AT KARGIL IN 1999 ,Afzal should not only be hanged but HIS BODY SHOULD BE BROKE INTO PIECES AND HIS CUT xxxxx SHOULD BE SENT TO PAKISTAN SO THAT THE COUNTRY SHOULD KNOW WHAT INDIANS(HINDUS)cando when one tries to tease them

At Least for the sake of Justice & to contain Terrorist activities & to show that India is NOT a NATION OF COWARDS, Afzal MUST be HANGED at the first opportunity without any further delay; those opposing it or showing signs of weakness in any garb, are ANTI - NATIONALISTS themselves.

Indian judges get killed then killing of Farooq Abdullah is also justified. Kill Afzal, torture him inch by inch, not a simple death. Donate his organs to needy army personnel.

I support a capital punishment for Afzal
