Chiplun (Maharashtra): A delegation comprising members of Warakari Samiti and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) called on the Tehsildar and Police Inspector of Chiplun and submitted a representation protesting against the Marathi play ‘Hari Aalaa Daari’ as it makes mockery of Hindu deities. While accepting the representation, Shri. Jagannath Pawar, Police Inspector said that degrading deities is like denying our own existence. It is very foolish to disown the power of existence of God who has gifted us with this body that we are able to talk and walk. We must make use of it for good cause. Everyone has right to worship God in one’s own way; but making mockery of others places of worship or deities or staging obscene plays is wrong.
Shri. Jagannath Pawar assured members of Warakari Samiti and HJS that immediate action would be taken against those who insult or harm deities or places of worship. Sawarde-Nandgaon Panchkroshi Warakari Sampradaya and Hari Om Satnam Warakari Sampradaya along with HJS submitted the representation. Shri. Satish Kadam, the Dy. Pawar accepted the representation copies of which have also been sent to the Home Minister, Cultural Minister, State Government, Police Commissioner, Maharashtra State and the Censor Board for Marathi plays.

'Hari Aalaa Daari' - No Change in Script
June 29, 2007
Mumbai (Maharashtra): The name of Marathi play ‘Deva Kari Love’ has been changed to ‘Hari Aalaa Daari’, however, a no. of times, there is a mention of earlier name in the play. It appears that in view of the objection raised by Shiv Sena, the producer has changed only the name to pacify the agitators. In the begining of the play, introduction of the play is done with the word ‘When God starts loving ….” . In the second Act, there is a song with wording ‘Deva Kari Love’. Thus, Shri. Dilip Tawade, the producer of the play has changed the name of the play; but it is just an eyewash and the words ‘Dev Kari Love’ are used through out the play. Although the Censor Board has given a clean chit to the play; there is mockery of Hindu deities like Sree Vitthal-Rakhumai, Shiva-Parvati, Indra-deva, Narad muni, Yamadut, Swargalok and apsara through out the play. In the last 10 minutes of the play, there are dialogues on the current affairs, about perverted mentality of people; but during the first 2 hours and 10 minutes, there is denigration of deities. Shri. Tawade tried to draw attention of the agitators to the last 10 minutes of the play claiming that it was for enlightening people.

June 28, 2007Khed (Maharashtra): Anti-Hindu Marathi play 'Deva Kari Love' alias 'Hari Aalaa Daari' makes mockery of Hindu deities. On 26 th June, a meeting was held at Sree Patharjai temple in Khed taluka by Warakari, Bhavik Sampradaya Mandal, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and devout Hindus to protest against the above play. Santosh Jadhav prayed for success of the campaign as he accepted the representation. Shri. Yesare Maharaj of Warakari Sampradaya said that in olden days, anti-Hindus used to harass saints and religious leaders so they fought against the antagonists. Now we also have to take on such antagonists. Hindus are indifferent towards their Dharma and therefore, followers of other faiths are taking advantage. Shri. Jogale Maharaj said, "We get angry if someone says something against our parents. Similarly, when deities are denigrated, we should feel enraged." Shri. Santosh Ghorapade said that the anti-Hindu Acts have not so far been passed because of intense agitations by HJS. It was decided to hold such meeting every month to discuss incidents taking place with regard to Dharma. Shri Gowalkar, keertankar and members of HJS, Sanatan Sanstha and devout Hindus attended the meeting.

It was declared on behalf of HJS that wherever the shows will be announced of this anti-Hindu play, HJS will stage demonstrations in a lawful manner. For once, the police were quite helpful.

Censor Board President Shinde justify clean chit
June 24, 2007
Nashik (Maharashtra): Monthly meeting of Censor Board for stage plays was held at the Government Rest House in Nashik. A representation was submitted to Shri. F. M. Shinde, the President demanding a ban on the Marathi play 'Hari Aalaa Daari (earlier called as 'Deva Kari Love') on behalf of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti (All India Committee of Saints) . Shri. Shinde said at that time, "Saint Janabai also called Sree Vitthal as 'Vithya'". He said that there was nothing objectionable in the play. The script of the play has been examined by the Censor Board and neither he nor any of the members found anything wrong. Shri. Shinde said that two lady members of Warkari Sect were sent to watch the play; but they too did not find anything wrong.
Shri. Sanjay Maharaj, the district-President of Akhil Bharatiya Warakari Sant Samiti explained to Shri. Shinde that Saint Janabai called Sree Vitthal in this manner out of sheer devotion; but it is not so in the play. Another member of the Board advised Maharaj that saints should not get involved in such things. They should have more tolerance. Maharaj then replied that Dharma also teaches us to punish the guilty. He said that he did not get Warkari members to submit the representation other wise it would have been difficult for Censor Board to hold the meeting.
Shri. Shinde stated that such agitation against the play is giving it unwarranted publicity; but such plays did not last for long. He said that the agitators should have contacted the writer of the play and explained to him. Shri. Rajendra Nalage, Chandavad taluka President of Warakari Sant Samiti, Shri. Anantdasji Maharaj Kajawadekar, Shri. Ganapat Panas, Shri. Dadaji Shinde, Shri. Sanjay Maharaj Thakare, Shri. Dattatreya Raut, Shri. Shivji Sanap, Shri. Gorakh Jadhav and Shri. Bajirao Kekan from Puri, Shri. Sampat Jadhav, Shri. Prabhakar Pawar, Shri. Haribhau Pawar, Shri. Ratan Jadhav, Shri. Ramesh Vakte and Shri. Mukund Ozarkar of Sanatan Sanstha were present when the representation was submitted.
Clean chit to 'Hari Aalaa Daari' by Censor Board
June 23, 2007
Mumbai (Maharashtra): A two member committee formed by 'Maharashtra State Stage shows Censor Board' consisting of Smt. Rekha Dighe and Priyanka Bandiwadekar gave a clean chit to anti-Hindu Marathi play 'Hari Aalaa Daari'.
Sree Vitthal-Rakhumai, highly revered deity in Maharashtra has been ridiculed in the Marathi play 'Hari Aalaa Daari' written by Shri. Rhushikesh Ghosalkar and produced by Shri. Dilip Tawade. Name of this play was earlier 'Deva Kari Love'. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and Warakari Sect have been objecting to this play right from its first show. In this connection, the Censor Board was also approached and the issue was referred to a two-member committee formed in this connection. The committee has since submitted its report giving a clean chit to the play.
The committee has mentioned in its report that not a single dialogue is objectionable in the play 'Deva Kari love' alias 'Hari Aalaa Daari'. The Censor Board has also accepted the report and Shri. F. M. Shinde, the President of the Board has now expressed his opinion that if the challengers still want to oppose, they should approach the Government for justice. Shri. Shinde said that he had discussed the matter with members of Warkari Sect and expressed the same opinion. He said further that the Board appointed two lady members considering the complaint of those opposing this play; but they have not found anything objectionable in the play; therefore, there is no need to interfere in their decision. The members appointed on such committees are expert in their field and their report is always correct.
In the meanwhile, Pujya Rameshwar Shastri Maharaj, the Vice President of 'Sree Warakari Prabodhan Mahasamiti' has said that the Censor Board might have given a clean chit to the play; but Warkari Sect has not. Even if the Censor Board is advising us to approach Government to seek justice, we shall not do so. First we will beat up the members of the Board and its President.
Pujya Maharaj said that no show will be staged unless the characters of Sree Vitthal and Rakhumai are removed. We do not want mockery of any deity. If Ghosalkar and Board are so keen to denigrate deities, would they dare to ridicule Allah or Jesus? If they do so, they will not survive. If the Board's policy is to take care of religious feelings of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Sikhs, we shall also not tolerate anyone hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. He said that the members of Board should be taken to Court and President F. M. Shinde should be put behind bars.
(Most indecent dialogues given to characters of Sree Vitthal- Rakhumai are not found objectionable by the two members of the committee is an indication of biased views of the members. Shri. Shinde has thus steered himself clear from the responsibility – Editor)
Ignorance of Natya-Parishada President on 'Hari Aala Daari' controversy
June 23, 2007Controversy about 'Hari Aala Daari' has stirred all Maharashtra; so much is being written about the play; but Shri. Mohan Joshi, the President of all India Marathi Natya-Parishada claims to have no knowledge about the controversy. When Shri. Joshi was contacted to learn about his views, he tried to save his skin by showing ignorance about the whole matter.
He said that Censor Board has rights to take a decision and if it has already taken decision, what could Natya-Parishada say on the issue. The objective of Natya-Parishada is development of Marathi stage. When he was asked that why the Parishada does not create awareness among stage artists about the growing tendency of denigrating worshipped deities of a particular religion on Marathi stage, he said that there were lots of other issues with the Nayta-Parishada that needed its attention and it has no time for issue of this kind.

Is 'Hari' asking for alms? - rebuke Warkaris
June 23, 2007Mumbai (Maharashtra): Shri. Arun Maharaj Kadam, ‘keertankar’ and Mumbai-district President of Sree Samasta Warkari-Fadakari Dindi Samaj asked those involved with the play that what they meant by ‘Hari Aalaa Daari’. Is it that Hari is going from door to door begging for alms? He admonished poet Shri. F. M. Shinde, President of Censor Board for stage-plays that the Board will have to take a review of Marathi play ‘Deva Kari Love (now name changed to ‘Hari Aalaa Daari’)’. Shri. Shinde later promised Shri. Arun Maharaj that action would be taken against the play.
Members of Warkari Sampradaya and devout Hindus have been very much perturbed with the scenes in the above play. People in Pune are agitated over the play. Warkaris and devout Hindus have come together in places like Alandi, Pandharpur, Kolhapur, Tuljapur etc. to protest. Shri. Kadam Maharaj has demanded that the characters of Vitthal-Rakhumai and Shiva-Parvati should be withdrawn from the script and in the forthcoming meeting of Censor Board at Nashik and action should be taken against the play.
Dev Kari Love: New Name, Old Dialogues
June 21, 2007Mumbai (Maharashtra): ‘Deva Kari Lolve’, a Marathi play produced by Sairaj Productions makes mockery of Sree Vitthal and Rakhumai, a Hindu deity, much worshipped by Warkari Sampradaya. The play has been facing opposition from all quarters. In this background, it has been claimed that the objection was raised only to the name of the play and the name has since been changed to ‘Hari Aalaa Daari’ without carrying out any changes in the script or dialogues of the play. The above information was given to Sanatan Prabhat’s reporter by Shri. Suresh Kambale of Sairaj Productions.
Shri. Kambale said that the Warkari Sapradaya, Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had objected to the title of the play and the name has, therefore, been changed. The Secretary of the Censor Board had issued a temporary certificate to the play granting permission for staging the play.
When the reporter of Sanatan Prabhat pointed out to Shri. Kambale that Warkari Sampradaya, Sanatan Prabhat and HJS have raised objection to not only the name but also the dialogues, Shri. Kambale said that as there was dispute about the name and the theatre owners were not giving permission to stage the shows, the name was changed. He said further that at Vashi, Sanatan members had not raised any objection except for the word used ‘Vithya’ for Vitthal and the word has also been omitted from the script. He said that the Censor Board had no objection to the dialogues of the play. Your browser may not support display of this image.
Meanwhile, Shri. Ramesh Shinde, the spokesperson of HJS has stated that the main objection was to the dialogues for ridiculing Hindu deities. It was wrong to personify the deities and make mockery of them. HJS will therefore, continue to protest till necessary action is taken.
Hundreds of 'Warakaris', members of 'Sri Samasta Warakari-Fadakari Dindi Samaj' surrounded Shri. Dilip Tawade
June 15, 2007
Warkari with HJS members |
Hundreds of Warakaris, members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and Hindus raised slogans condemning the play. Shri. Arun Kadam, President of 'Sri Samasta Warakari-Fadakari Dindi Samaj' said that till the names of Vitthal - Rakhumai and Shiva- Parvati were not removed from the script, they will demonstrate at every theatre where the play is to be staged. He said that a resolution will also be passed prohibiting the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from performing 'puja' of Lord Pangurang at Pandharpur. The issue will be taken to more than 10 lakh devotees at Alandi and Pandharpur. Dr. Uday Dhuri, Convener of HJS explained the issue to the media persons present. Shri. Bhaskar Khursunge, a municipal councilor specially participated in the demonstrations to register his protest. Keertankars Shri. Ravindra Kadam and Shri. Tukaram Khot were also present on the occasion
(We congratulate all Warakaris for taking Shri. Dilip Tawade to task on this issue! When Hindus will come forward to fight against assaults on their Dharma, nobody will dare to be hostile towards Hindu Dharma. - Editor)
Police refuse permission to stage demonstrations against Marathi play
Kalyan (Maharashtra): A show of the controversial play 'Deva Kari Love' was scheduled at Atre theatre in Kalyan, where Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had planned peaceful and lawful demonstrations against it. An application was given to the Police Commissioner seeking permission for the demonstrations; but permission was refused; the Police said that there was a prohibition order against assembly of people in that area and they warned HJS that legal action will be taken if the demonstration took place.
HJS has stated that as per the Indian Constitution, every citizen of this country has a right to protest if his religious sentiments are hurt; but it is most condemnable that this right is withdrawn by the police, although Hindu deities have been ridiculed in this play in obscene language. Shri. Kiran Chaudhary, President of the Hindu Mahasabha from Kalyan tried his best to get permission from the Police, but in vain. Hindu organizations have been agitated by the anti-Hindu behaviour of Police.
(Anti-Hindu police are not taking action against the offenders, but are prompt in taking action against those who are protesting against the offence, that too, in a legal manner. Hindus should not rely on such police for their protection, nor for the protection of the deities they worship. They should become 'Dharma-yoddhas' - Editor)
Warkari complains to Govt. against 'Deva Kari Love'
Mumbai (Maharashtra): In the Marathi play 'Deva Kari Love' staged by Sairaj Productions, there is mockery of Vitthal-Rakhumai, deities worshipped mainly by the Warkari sect. On behalf of Western Zonal Branch of Shri. Samasta Warkari-Fadakari Dindi Samaj (Pandharpur), a representation was given to the Chief Minister, Dy. Chief Minister and State Cultural Minister against the above play stating that the offensive writing of the play and its staging has hurt religious sentiments of all Hindus. The representations were submitted to the Secretariats of the ministers in the presence of HJS members.
In the representation they requested for a ban on its show scheduled on 14th June and warned that it would be followed by protests on the streets in the form of a 'Dindi march' if they failed to comply. The Sensor Board has ignored the part of the play that hurts feelings of all Hindus. The Govt. should ensure that henceforth, no play will be staged that has denigration of deities and hurts religious sentiments of Hindus. If no legal action is taken, there could be disorder in the State resulting in unrest. It is demanded that the controversial portion of the play should be removed; or a ban should be imposed on the play.
The Forest Ministry has also requested the Chief Minister for removal of the controversial dialogues from the script. A copy of the representation will be given to the Police Commissioner. The delegation consisted of Shri. Arun Kadam, the President of Warkari-Fadakari Dindi Samaj, its members Shri. Ravindra Kadam and Shri. Tukaram Khot and members of HJS.
Show turns into a fiasco at Navi Mumbai
June 13, 2007
Navi Mumba (Maharashtra)i: Show of the controversial Marathi play 'Deva Kari Love' at Vishnudas Bhave theatre in Navi Mumbai was a fiasco as demonstrations were staged by members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and devout Hindus from other Hindu organizations. In a theater with more than a thousands' capacity, there were just 15-20 members of audience to watch the play.
There has been indecent matter written in the play which denigrates 'Kuldeavata' of Maharashtra viz. Vithobaraya and Rukmini Devi. When advertisement about the play was seen on the previous day of the show, members of HJS started collecting members of other Hindu organizations and preparing to stage demonstrations. At the earlier shows of the play, complaints had been lodged with the police; but no heed was paid by the producer or director of the play or even the Sensor Board. Moreover, in some of the Marathi daily newspapers like 'Maharashtra Times' and 'Loksatta', there was criticism against HJS and 'Sanatan Prabhat'. It was, therefore, felt that police would take action against the demonstrators. When permission was sought for staging demonstrations, the police gave a warning that in case of any problem in the theatre or outside, agitators will be immediately arrested. Police also provided security to the staff and cast of the play.
Devout Hindus started raising slogans against the play just before it started due to which members of audience did not dare to go to the hall. In the end, demonstrators declared that the agitation will be continued. Members of HJS like Shri. Shivaji Vatkar, the Mumbai district coordinator, Shri. Ramesh Sunil, Navi Mumbai coordinator and Shri. Rajan Bhurake participated in the demonstrations besides, Shri. Santosh Kanade of BJP Yuva Morcha, Shri Atul Kulkarni of Shiv Sena, leaders of VHP, Bajarang Dal, Goraksha Committee, Sree Shri.Yoga Vedanta, Warkari Sect were very active in the demonstrations.
(Congratulations to devout Hindus for staging protest in a peaceful and lawful manner for protection of Dharma and create awareness among Hindus.-Editor)
Sensor Board should be dissolved - Pujya Rameshwar Shastri
June 12, 2007
Effect of showing over-tolerance by Hindus is this play. In this field, Sensor Board, which is deliberately granting clearances to such controversial anti-Hindu plays. Pujya Rameshwar Shastri , the President of 'Akhil Bharatiya Warkari Probodhini Mahasangh' demanded dissolution of the Sensor Board in the context of the controversial Marathi play. He also said that a representative from all religions should be appointed on the Board so that a thorough examination is done helping to maintain national unity.Sensor Board should start caring for feelings of Hindus - Bharatcharya Shri. S. G. Shevade
Whether it is a movie, drama or TV serial, the Sensor Board is extra careful in checking that religious feelings of Muslims and Christians are not hurt; but it is not so serious towards Hindu matters. Now at least the Sensor Board should become sensitive to religious feelings of Hindus. Some thing is wrong with the mentality of people, Hindus; they have become insensitive towards Hindus and therefore, plays like 'Deva Kari Love' are staged. Hindus are responsible for such denigration as they have become apathetic towards Dharma matters. Hindus see no harm in denigration of deities. It is time Hindus are taught that it is not a topic for fun.
Devout Hindu abused and threatened by assistant to producer for registering his protest
Thane (Maharashtra): Shri. Shashank Chaubal, a devout Hindu called up the office of Shri. Rhushikesh Ghosalkar, producer of a Marathi play 'Deva Kari Love' to register his protest against objectionable dialogues in the play hurting his religious feelings. The call was answered by an associate of the producer who started abusing Shri. Chaubal.
Shri. Shashank Chaubal from Kalwa, Thane called up the office of Shri. Rhushikesh Ghosalkar and asked him that why there was such denigration of Hindu deities in his plays. He asked that would he dare to use worshipped personas in other religions for making mockery in his play. An associate of Shri. Ghosalkar abused Shri. Chaubal in a very filthy language. He also asked Shri. Chaubal for his address so that he could go to Shri. Chaubal's house and beat up him up. Later on, a friend of Shri. Chaubal called up Shri. Ghosalkar when he asked his friend whether he had watched the play. He told him that there was no denigration of deities in this play. He said the play, in fact, guides people on how one should not insult our deities. Shri. Hari Prabhu also called up from Dombivali to register his protest; but the dramatist's friend told him that such news are published in newspaper only to increase its sale.

Rude reply to Hindu lady from Producer
Sindhudurga (Maharashtra): A devout Hindu lady took Shri. Rhishikesh Ghosalkar, the producer of controversial Marathi play 'Dev Kari Love' to task. She asked Shri. Ghosalkar to render public apology to Hindus for hurting their religious feelings through the controversial play 'Dev Kari Love'. There are objectionable dialogue and gestures denigrating deities in the said play. He, however, was very rude to her.
When the lady asked him to render apology for hurting religious feelings of Hindus, Shri. Ghosalkar said he was also a devout Hindu. He advised her to first watch the play rather than believing others. He asked her why no action was being taken against those responsible for destruction of Hindu temples.
The lady told him that she was not interested in watching such play and her organization was already working towards creating awareness among people towards anti-Hindu activities. She asked him that how he could denigrate deities when he called himself a devout Hindu. She told him that she was registering her protest and wanted him to apologize, in public, for writing such play. Shri. Ghosalkar replied that he did not render apologies to fools.
(Congratulations to devout Hindu lady for asking for explanation. Every Hindu should be so alert. Will producer Shri. Ghosalkar dare to give such answers to a Muslim?- Editor)

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Shri. P. D. Tiwari, a senior police inspector at Borivali police station issued orders to investigating officers for issuing a letter to the producer and director of Marathi play 'Deva Kari Love' to go to the police station and discuss the matter with HJS members.
A show of the above Marathi play was staged at a theatre in Borivali. In this play, there has been personification of Hindu deities like Vitthal-Rukmini, Shiva-Parvati, Indra-deva and Yama-deva. HJS lodges complaint for re-viewing of Marathi play
June 1, 2007
Mumbai (Maharashtra): Shows of Marathi play 'Dev kari love' produced by Sairaj Productions and written and directed by Shri. Rhushikesh Ghosalkar, were recently held in Mumbai. In this play, Hindu deities have been shown as living in the present times and used for creating humour, deities worshipped by Hindus like Vitthal-Rakhumai, Shiva-Parvati, Indra-dev and Yama etc. have been ridiculed. The dialogues spoken by these deities are obscene and their gestures on the stage are also lewd. The play has hurt feelings of thousands of Hindus. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has, therefore, filed a complaint with Marathi Stage Reviewing Committee.
It has been stated in the complaint that as per Indian Constitution, it is wrong to make mockery of any religion, culture and symbols and is a cognizable offence under Section 295-A of IPC. According to the rules and regulations of Marathi Plays Reviewing Committee, such plays should have been refused permission in the primary round itself. It is the responsibility of the Committee to ensure that feelings of followers of none of the religions are hurt. It is not correct to ridicule others' religious feelings to create humour under the name of 'Art' for making money. Therefore, Marathi play 'Dev kari love' should be banned immediately, is the demand made by HJS and Hindu devotees. The Committee should think seriously on the issue and put a ban. Members of HJS had detailed discussions with the Committee members. HJS has started lawful agitations against anti-Hindu plays from time to time and has submitted many representations against such Marathi plays. HJS feels that the Marathi Stage Review Committee is partial and does not care about feelings of Hindus.
