Staunch pro-Hindu Daily ‘Sanatan Prabhat’

April 20, 2010
Adhik Vaishakh Shuddha Shashthi, Kaliyug Varsha 5112

For the last 10 years, ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has been carrying on the important task of pointing readers like me in the right direction – i.e. those who are interested in doing something constructive for the Nation and Dharma and who want to follow the path of spirituality in life. On the occasion of having completed a decade and as part of expressing my intense gratitude, given below are the specialties of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ for others to know. This article takes stock of the progress made by ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ so far.

The Daily periodical ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ known as a staunch pro-Hindu Daily newspaper, completed ten years on 4th April. I have had the good fortune to regularly read and study the ‘Daily’, right from its first issue up until today, only due to the grace of God. The ‘Daily Sanatan Prabhat (DSP)’, devoted to the mission of creating awareness about the present state of the Nation and ones duty towards Dharma has gone through many ups and downs in the last 10 years. DSP has experienced problems every now and then in the past 10 years and even now one can realise how difficult it is in the present secular system of governance, to carry on the task of creating such awareness so selflessly.

The news items and articles published in the DSP always make us appreciate the same. It is next to impossible in the present age to selflessly run a ‘Daily’ for an entire decade, for all the 365 days in each year, which is dedicated to its goal of enlightening society when there is so much of competition. Yet it has never compromised on its principles despite bearing financial losses. It has been possible for the DSP to carry on only due to the grace of God and with the blessings of hundreds of Saints from this country.

Specialties of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’

Frank and fearless writing : There is no place for glossy and highly entertaining news and articles in ‘Sanatan Prabhat’. It has never created a rift among the citizens by publishing communal news items. Every news item is presented frankly with apt and sharp headings in ‘Sanatan Prabhat’. It always tries to publish true news without falling prey to the pressure created by politicians, the administration, the police or criminals. It does not write in favour of any political party. A political party means a group of people from society formed with a common goal and have a similar line of thinking. A political party should not have the goal of just filling its belly but the prime goal should be the welfare of the people. ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has very effectively brought forth the mistakes of every political party keeping the above goal in mind. It has always criticized the incidents which have been against the welfare of the Nation and Dharma with the stance that it is always on God’s / Righteousness side.

Educating people : An important speciality of Sanatan’s journalism is giving an editorial view for every news. ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ lauds a person doing something good and tries to bring to the notice of the people the unrighteousness in Society place through its editorials. This helps to create an ability among the ordinary readers to judge the correctness of every incident developing the thought process of the readers. The readers then start thinking about the wrong doings and what should have been the right thing to happen.

Enlightening ‘boxes’ : Another speciality of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ is the information published in a chaukat (box) regularly published on its second and third pages. Many eminent and responsible personalities say something in some programs or functions or open discussions. Their statements misguide people who are their followers or those who have faith in them. ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ firmly shows how wrong the statements could be. Incidents, which can be of inspiration to Hindus to develop respect and love towards their Dharma, are also published in brief.

Efforts for purification of language : Various invasions on Bharat resulted in infiltration of languages spoken by the invaders e.g. Persian, Arabian, Urdu and English in Marathi language. This led to the Marathi language losing its purity and beauty. ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has undertaken a drive to purify the Marathi language by using alternatives for Marathi words which have been adopted from foreign languages so that it regains its original status. Under this drive, words, that have adulterated Marathi language, are published along with their alternate pure Marathi word. In the news items and articles published in ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ also, every effort is made to use words from other languages. Now this drive has extended to even the Hindi and Gujarati periodicals published by ‘Sanatan Prabhat’.

News inspiring readers to take action : ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ prominently publishes news related to incidents where somebody fights back with a criminal, corruption is exposed, somebody does something useful for the society, an organization undertakes ‘Dharmaprasar’ etc. It also specially publishes news related to incidents like someone stops denigration of Deities or the National Flag or stops damage caused to Dharma or the Nation, stops religious conversions etc. Such news inspires others to take action. In fact, thousands of readers of Sanatan have become active in matters related to Dharma and the Nation.

Efforts to publish as many news as possible : ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ always publishes in its Daily newspaper, important news at national, international and State levels. It is observed that no news is published just for the sake of filling pages but instead depending upon its importance, required space is allocated to the news so as to reach its readers. Reporters of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ visit various places and collect the news without any remuneration, as part of their participation in ‘Dharmakarya’.

Dharmashikshan : Followers of other religions are very much alert towards matters related to their religion because of the education imparted to them through their religious places. No such facility is, however, available for Hindus of imparting ‘Dharmashikshan’ as a result Hindu Dharma is in a dire state. The young generation is following western culture and is wandering aimlessly. Christian missionaries are taking advantage of this situation and converting Hindus by going to poor and tribal areas where Hindus are in a majority. Under the column ‘Dharmashikshan’ published in ‘Sanatan Prabhat’, the science behind every festival, tradition, rite and ritual etc. is explained so that Hindus know the importance of their Dharma. Besides this, prior to every festival, information about that festival, what is the way of celebration as prescribed in science, what are its benefits at a physical, mental and spiritual level etc. is published.

A ‘Daily’ that does not publish advertisements of products detrimental to society : The advertisements obtained by ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ are negligible compared to the advertisements received by other newspapers. Barring its special issues, on most of the days, there are no advertisements published in the paper.  Special issues which are published on the occasion of Hindu festivals and national festivals, only the well-wishers and readers of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ give advertisements; but we have never seen advertisements of cigarettes, tobacco, liquor etc. in this newspaper. ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has never accepted such advertisements only because they are detrimental to the society although it was offered extra money for publishing such advertisements. This shows the expansiveness of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ towards social welfare.  In the last 10 years, the secular Government has never given even a single advertisement to ‘Sanatan Prabhat’; may be because its mission of awakening of Hindus.

Virtuous journalism :The journalism followed by Sanatan is virtuous  journalism. Views are published boldly on any matter without any inhibitions. It does not indulge in appeasement of anyone; due to which ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has to face opposition from the Government, police and unrighteous people. It has, however, continued its virtuous journalism despite facing all sorts of opposition. This is evident from the news published in the periodicals.

Opposition faced by ‘Sanatan Prabhat’

1. ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has received several threats from the workers and leaders of anti-Hindu organizations and political parties.
2.  In the year 2005, 200 Muslims attacked the office of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ at Miraj
3. The editor and distributors of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ have to continuously undergo police inquiry.
4. The Editor of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’, who is engaged in creating awareness amongst the masses towards their Dharma and Nation, has been taken into custody thrice.  This is an exceptional instance where any editor had to face imprisonment during the post-independence period. Many times, it has been observed that the followers of other Sects, publish something that would create disharmony among the people in society but none of them has ever faced such arrest. A Hindu editor, awakening Hindus, is however, accused.
5. The secular rulers have been declaring through various media that there would be ban on ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ Few news channels run with the money received from outside countries, capitalized on the incidents of bomb blasts at Thane and Mudgaon and tried to spread hatred towards ‘Sanatan Prabhat’.

With such strong opposition too, ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ has not looked back; in fact, it has intensified its mission of creating awareness among people towards the Nation and Dharma.  Although the severity of opposition to ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ is increasing, the support of Hindu people is also increasing with the same force.  ‘Sanatan’ has the blessings of Saints and also it doing work of protecting Dharma so Dharma (God) will protest 'Sanatan Prabhat' from all oppositions.

Unique features of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’

In comparison with other newspapers, ‘Daily Sanatan Prabhat’ is an unusual newspaper in many respects and would be the only one of its kind in the world.

1. It does not take a holiday even for a single day in the year. The persons concerned with various aspects of this newspaper do not take any remuneration but run the newspaper as part of ‘Guruseva’ and ‘sadhana’
2. There is no limitation of specific office hours for the ‘Daily’; but those who are working there, have offered their life towards the mission of protection of the Nation and Dharma.
3. Thriftiness in the use of material - utilization of used papers which are blank on one side is just one of the systems set in place towards this end.
4. There is no place for news related to entertainment, sports and other unnecessary news as the main aim of running such a newspaper is the welfare of the Nation and Dharma.
5. There is a large world beyond the world, which is seen in the ‘gross’, known as the ‘subtle’ world. Scientific research carried out by Sanatan Sanstha and its spiritual explanation published in the newspaper makes it the only one newspaper of its kind in the world.
6. This Daily newspaper is run only with the expansive aim of ‘Dharmajagruti’ and ‘Dharmarakshan’ sticking to its principles keeping away from malpractices like ‘yellow journalism’ and ‘Paid news’. This is possible as seekers are running it not as a commercial venture but as a part of their spiritual practice.
7. Sanatan’s reporters do not accept anything including money but donate even small things received by them.
8. The ‘Daily’ does not accept advertisements from companies manufacturing liquor, tobacco etc. as also from persons like ‘Bangali babas’.  ‘Sanatan’ does not believe in double standards such as publishing articles opposed to the above habit forming activities but on the other hand, publish advertisements encouraging the use of such products that are detrimental to society.
9. The editorial notes and viewpoints giving direction to society not only help people to know the difference between what is right and wrong but also develops an ideological base in them for Hindu unity and the revival of this country.

H. H. Dr. Athavale’s message on the occasion of completion of 10 years by Daily Sanatan Prabhat

H.H. Dr.Jayant Athavale

We are entering the 11th year of Dainik Sanatan Prabhat being published in Mumbai, Thane, Raigadh, Marathawada and Vidarbha. Suppose a baby is sick at the time of birth, then one worries about how long this baby will survive?  In the early days, SANATAN PRABHAT too experienced a state similar to this. When sadhaks started this seva, they did not have any working experience or any training at all. In addition there was no financial support and a lack of any professional experience with regards to the newspaper media.

I pray at Holy feet of Sadguru that may His grace flow continuously on Sanatan Prabhat and may many other such periodicals commence.

– H. H. Dr. Jayant Athavale
