Chaitra Krushna Dashami, Kaliyug Varsha 5112

Mannar (Dist:Alapuzha, Kerala): Breaking all Dharmic traditions  and conventions of temples, a cake was cut in ‘Chennithala Thriperumthura Shri Mahadeva Temple’ on the occasion of Easter. The function organized in the name of creating ‘Religious brotherhood’, has become a disputable issue.

The mastermind behind this idea of ‘cake cutting’ was Mr. T. Sajeev, CPIM supporter and the secretary of Temple Advisory Committee (Kshetra Upadeshaka Samiti) and Jinu George, leader of D.Y.F.I, member of Grama Panchayat and the secretary of Chennithala St. George Church.

No devotees were present in this function which took place without the permission of the Devaswom Board and without the decision of the Temple Advisory Committee. The president of this Committee who had first decided against participating in this function stating that it was against the tradition, later changed his decision and participated in the event.

This event was organised amidst differences of opinion among members of the Committee regarding the activities of the same. Fr. Varghese Mathew, Pastor of Chennithala St. George Church, K.P. Varghese, Trustee, Jinu George the  Secretary, Nidhin Babu, Lintu Cherian the office beares of Yuvajana Association and around 50 Christians participated in this event.

They reached the temple at 7.30 am along with cake. They were received with garlands by T. Sajeev  the Secretary of Temple Advisory Committee and Pradeep President of Temple Advisory Committee. District Panchayat members Jacob Oommen, Mohan Kannangar, etc. also participated in this event.
