Pak court orders chopping of nose for a nose

A Pakistani court has ordered the chopping off of the noses and ears of two men as punishment for inflicting similar injuries on a woman they abducted.

An anti-terrorism court headed by Judge Khalid Naveed Dar in Lahore handed down the punishment on Monday to Sher Muhammad and Amanat Ali, who were found guilty of kidnapping the woman.

The girl, who was not named, had refused to marry one of them. After abducting her, the men, in a barbaric act, cut off her nose and ears.

"The court ordered that the nose and the ears of Sher Muhammad and Amanat Ali be chopped off as part of an Islamic punishment of a nose for a nose and ears for ears," the ruling said. The anti-terrorism court also sentenced the two to life imprisonment and fined them each Rs 3,00,000.

They were also directed to pay the woman Rs 7,00,000 as compensation. The Lahore high court had recently taken suo moto notice of the incident and directed the anti-terrorism court to decide the matter within a month.
