RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that the Sangh has no reason to regret the Babri mosque demolition that happened 17 years ago and it would continue with the Ram temple movement.
"We want the Ram temple to be built there and we have been working towards the construction of the temple for long and there is no question of regret. Whatever happened there that time, lakhs of people had gathered there, which represented different section of the society including Muslim kar sevaks (volunteers for a religious cause), who believed that they played with their sentiments that is why the demolition took place. Those responsible for playing with the sentiments of the people should regret. We don't," Bhagwat told reporters on the eve of the 17th anniversary of episode.
Questioning the credibility of the Liberhan Commission report, the RSS chief said that there was no conspiracy involved in bringing down the mosque.
"What has been said in the Liberhan report could have been said in 1993 also. There was no point of spending so much money and so much time on that. There is a question mark over the credibility of the Commission report. There are many factual errors in it. There was no conspiracy in the mosque demolition. It was a people's movement and they had gathered there because no one paid any heed to their sentiments. There was no pre-planning," Bhagwat said.
Last month, the Centre published the long awaited report which named BJP leaders-including former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and opposition leader Lal Krishna Advani , for not preventing the 1992 destruction of the 16th century Babri Masjid.structure, in which images of Ram Lala had been placed.
