Impose a ban on fire-crackers with pictures of Deities and great National Heroes so that damage caused to the Nation and Dharma is prevented  – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS)

Mumbai (Maharashtra): “Few unauthorized traders of fire-crackers sell crackers with pictures of Deities and great National Heroes. When such crackers are burst, the pictures of Deities and National Heroes get torn to shreds and are scattered everywhere. These pieces are trampled by people as they fall on the roads and in gutters leading to denigration of Deities and National Heroes. The Government should take initiative and ban sale of such crackers so that damage caused to the Nation and Dharma is prevented.” The above appeal was made by Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district-coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts during a press conference held at ‘Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh’. Dr. Uday Dhuri, the coordinator of HJS for Navi Mumbai was also present on the occasion.

Denigration and hurting religious sentiments is a non-bailable and punishable offence under clause 295 (A) of Indian Penal Code whereas in terms of clause 9 (2) (b) of ‘Trade Marks Act, 1999’, it is an offence to print a religious symbol or a picture on any commercial product.  Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has therefore, undertaken, since past 6 years, a campaign to create awareness among the manufactures of such crackers, traders and buyers to stop production and ban sale of such crackers. HJS has submitted representations to the Chief Minister, Dy. Chief Minister, District Collectors from the State, Municipal Corporations, Police Officials and traders of crackers to put a curb on sale of such crackers at various places. HJS has forced them to take action in some cases, informed Mr. Vatkar.

Few reporters asked Mr. Vatkar that when HJS is undertaking such campaign for so many years, why permanent action is not yet taken? Mr. Vatkar informed that due to the continuous efforts and follow up by HJS, Krushna Fire Works from Sivakashi, All India Federation of Fire Works Association and Tamil Nadu Fire Works Association etc. who are the main manufacturers of fire crackers and their organizations have taken a decision to stop manufacture of such crackers and have informed HJS about the same through a letter. Now very few manufacturers make such crackers. The Government and police should prevent them. It is because the Government and police are not doing their duty properly that HJS has to constantly carry out agitations and bring such things to the notice of everyone.

Appeal in a Press Conference held in Mumbai

Bursting of crackers causes air and noise pollution. Something can catch fire due to such bursting. It is a health hazard for the citizens. When the country is going through financial crisis and 30 crores of citizens do not get proper meals two times a day, spending so much of money on crackers for the limited enjoyment is a social crime and despicable thing according to Hindu Dharma.
