Ramayana, Mahabharata to be part of Maharashtra anganwadi syllabus

Aurangabad : Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde-Palwe on Wednesday said syllabus for children at anganwadis across the state will include the Ramayana and Mahabharata.

“Some ministers, including Sudhir Mungantiwar (finance), wanted the children to have some spiritual development. So we decided to include Ramayana and Mahabharata in the syllabus prepared for anganwadis being run as part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme,” said Munde-Pawle said here.

This is for the first time the syllabus for anganwadis has been designed. The ICDS programme aims to provide services to pre-school children in an integrated manner to ensure proper growth and development of children in rural, tribal and slum areas.

Primary education director Mahavir Mane said the curriculum would not be applicable to private or other pre-primary schools.
