Panaji (Goa): A painting named ‘White Bull’ by anti-Hindu M F Husain has been displayed in the 7th art gallery of the Directorate of Goa Museum. On learning about the matter, a delegation of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) called on the Director, Mrs. Radha Bhave of the Museum and put forth a demand to remove Husain’s said painting. A representation was also submitted to her by HJS explaining about the indecent paintings of Hindu deities and Bharatmata made by Husain. It has been stated in the representation that such paintings have hurt religious sentiments of thousands of Hindus and created rift between religions endangering harmony that exists in this country.

A case been filed against Husain under clause 2 of National Dignity Act. Hindus from USA and England have stopped the auction of Husain’s paintings at many places in those countries. A film made by Husain titled ‘Through the eyes of a painter’ was not shown in the International Film Festival held in Goa due to opposition to Husain. All Hindus strongly oppose exhibition of paintings by such anti-national and anti-Hindu painter.

Mrs. Bhave said, “The painting is on display in the art gallery since the year 1998. But this point was brought to the notice of the Directorate for the first time. It is generally a matter of prestige to keep a painting by Husain in the exhibition. I can understand the sentiments of Hindus.” She also said that she would think over the matter and take a decision. The delegation of HJS comprised of Mr. Shashikant Narvekar, a devout Hindu, Mr. Jayesh Thali, coordinator of HJS for Goa besides members of Shiv Sena, Sanatan Sanstha, Ranaragini and Dharma-shakti Sena.
