Dear Sir,
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is an NGO engaged in Nation building, educating people about Dharma & Dharmacharan, awakening & uniting Hindus all over world. Kindly refer wesite www.hindujagruti.org for further details.
It is understood from your website and news that you are planning to display M. F. Husain’s paintings amongst other artist at your Indian art showcase on the eve of independence day.
Reference quoted for your perusal
(On August 15, India got her independence and on August 31, Trinidad and Tobago got hers. We celebrate this month, and in commemoration of that celebration we are observing a Festival of India for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago. "
Mishra said that the festival is being inaugurated on August 8 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Cooperation..
"The first is a contemporary art exhibition. For the first time contemporary Indian art will be showcased in Trinidad. We have in this exhibition, works of 14 artists of India. There are some very big names."
The exhibition called Kalpana (Imagination) consists of reprints of 29 paintings from a list of top artists which include MF Hussain, Amrita Shergill, Jarmini Roy, Krishen Khanna, Bhupen Khakhar and Jogen Choudhury. etc. )
Please note that M. F. Husain is wanted by the Indian police and the Honorable Courts of India in over 1250 police complaints and various court cases, for deliberately hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and Indian originals staying allover world through his paintings denigrating Hindu Deities , Naked Bharatmata and sacred symbols. Here are some news for your reference:
1. Husain's exhibition cancelled; exhibitor booked! Painting Confiscated:
http://www.hindujagruti.org/news/article/hindu-janajagruti-samiti/general/hjs-protest-uti-bank-cancels-hussain-s-exhibition.html
2. As per the news http://www.ibnlive.com/news/hussain-painting-faces-controversy-again/9574-8.html, the Indian Central Home Ministry has directed the Police Commissioners of Mumbai and Delhi to initiate appropriate action against the anti-Hindu painter M F Husain. His Bharatmata (Mother India) painting is under scrutiny by the Indian central government. Bureaucrats are also unwilling to give a go-ahead to any public exhibition of this artwork.
3. Mumbai Police Special Branch is investigating the matter and appropriate action would be taken against M. F. Hussein in due course. The proposed Roopdhar award 2006, Raja Ravi Varma Award, auction of his Rs 6 crore painting by Khushi Foundation at the Turf Club and others have been cancelled and his paintings from various exhibitions were removed due to large number of protests throughout India
4. Husain’s paintings excluded from India’s most prestigious Art show:
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/Art-summit-not-to-display-Husain-paintings/articleshow/4821152.cms
5. There are worldwide ongoing protests against the denigration caused by Husain, as can be seen here: www.sanatan.org/hussaincampaign and at http://www.hindujagruti.org/activities/campaigns/national/mfhussain-campaign/
Husain has also invited the displeasure of Muslim leaders and various Government officials from around the world. For example, Ruth Bennett, former Acting Public Affairs Officer of the US State Government responded to our protests, thus: 'Thank you for alerting us to your concerns over the auction of paintings by artist M. F. Husain in New York. I appreciate that his work is controversial and has angered many.' Ms. Bennett advised us to make our views known to auction houses exhibiting Husain's paintings.
The honourable courts of India have already summoned and issued warrants against Mr. Husain in various cities like Indore, Delhi, etc., since mid-March 2006, for hurting religious sentiments and creating communal disharmony. That is why M. F. Husain has been cited as absconding to UK and Dubai.
By including Husain’s paintings in the upcoming exhibition, would be aiding and abetting a man wanted by the Indian courts and the Indian government for deliberately hurting Hindus' religious sentiments. However, excluding his paintings from your exhibition would reiterate the welcome message of the UN ex-Secretary General, Kofi Annan about the violence that broke out over the Danish caricatures of Prophet Mohammad, "We must stress that rights carry with them an inherent responsibility, and should not be used to degrade, humiliate or insult any group or individual."
We look forward to your understanding and a prompt removal of M. F. Husain’s paintings from your forthcoming exhibition.
Awaiting for your reply,
Yours Truly,
S.G.Vatkar,
(For Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Coordinator-Mumbai Region)
Detail News about Indian Art Show at Trinidad & Tobago
A melange of visual arts is set to overwhelm locals as the Indian High Commission commemorates their Independence Day with a month of celebration. The festivities, held in collaboration with the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Cooperation (MGICC), the mayors of San Fernando, Port of Spain, the Tobago House of Assembly and various socio-cultural organisations, include Odissi dances, spiritual songs, a contemporary art exhibition, live craft demonstrations and a Hindi conference. All events will be open and free to the public.Indian High Commissioner Malay Mishra said this month-long "Festival of India" said the month is a very important one for them.
"On August 15, India got her independence and on August 31, Trinidad and Tobago got hers. We celebrate this month, and in commemoration of that celebration we are observing a Festival of India for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago. It is very elaborate."
Mishra said that the festival is being inaugurated on August 8 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Cooperation. He explained the five principal elements of the Festival.
The late Anjolie Ela Menon, once curator of the exhibition, was in her own capacity, a world renowned artist. The exhibition starts at 5.30 p.m. Following that at the same venue will be the first performance of visiting Odissi classical dancer, Sangeeta Dash.
Mishra said this was the very first time that an eminent professional Odissi dancer who has performed at several high profile venues both in India and abroad, would be coming to T&T.
"[Dash] is coming with her group and she will be accompanied by four other musicians, both vocal and instrumental. They are going to perform in several parts of Trinidad, as well as in Tobago."
Following her performance on August 8 at 6.30 p.m., Dash will hold a workshop the following day at the
Nrityanjali Theatre Studio, Beaulieu Avenue, Trincity. She then heads to the Naparima Bowl on August 10, another workshop at the Trinidad Sevashram Sangha Inc in Couva on August 11, at the Divali Nagar site on August 12, at City Hall, Port of Spain, on August 13 and the Fairfield Complex, Tobago, on August 14. All shows start at 6.30 p.m.
"This is our effort to bring in the best of Indian dance forms to perform in Trinidad and Tobago-a very friendly country with whom we have a wonderful relationship."
Mishra said one of the most interesting facets of the month of celebration would be the visit of craftsmen from India.
"In India we have a very rich tradition of arts and crafts, hundreds of years [old]. They are all award-winning craft persons and they [will be demonstrating] hand block painting, Kantha embroidery, miniature paintings, wood carvings and stone carvings."
These demonstrations will take place from August 7 to 13 at the Divali Nagar site from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on August 14 to 16 at the Hyatt Waterfront from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"The Hyatt Waterfront is becoming a very important venue for tourists and other visitors. That will be a very interesting feature for the benefit for the people of Trinidad."
Singer Vidya Shah was a vocalist at an Indo-Africa mega event "Tribute to Africa" at the Asian Society in New York in April 2008. She has also performed in Berlin and Singapore. Shah will be accompanied by a five member team and will hold performances at the SWAHA, Divya Ashram, Preysal on August 23, the Dattatreya Yoga Temple, Freeport on August 24, the Divali Nagar site on August 25, the Tunapuna Hindu School on August 26, the Tobago Sai Ashram on August 27 and the Gandhi Seva Ashram, Todd Street, San Fernando, on August 28. All devotional ceremonies start at 6.30 p.m.
The final three events for August take the form of a Hindi conference which starts at the University of the West Indies on August 23, the Divali Nagar site on August 24 and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Cooperation on August 26. All discourses start at 6.30 p.m. Registration is necessary and interested persons can call the High Commission of India for further information.
