Sadhvi Pragyasingh Thakur has announced about her committing suicide. She is kept in judicial custody in a jail at Byculla, Mumbai. She has been accused by the Government of being involved in the Malegaon bomb-blast a few years back. If she has indeed taken the law in her own hand, spread social hatred through any of her actions unnecessarily and if the Government has decided to keep her under lawful surveillance, then there remains no scope for any complaint.

However, since Sadhvi Pragyasingh has made a complaint about her being subjected to intense physical and mental torture in police custody, the need has arisen for thinking much beyond this episode. It is now a question of the credibility of the Maharashtra Government and Sadhvi Pragyasingh. The Maharashtra Government seems to think that, she has lost her credibility of being a ‘Sadhvi’. However, this is not yet proved in the court and the court too has not commented upon her reputation so far. So the people still have immense respect for her.

But, the same cannot be said about the Government. This is the biggest problem. It appears that the Government and the media are bent upon connecting the Malegaon blast with Hindu-Muslim relation. It is evident that, when the ruling party is Congress, either alone or as an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party, they are always partial towards Muslims. Ram Pradhan’s report about the 26/11 jihadi attack shows clearly that, the government machinery was reluctant to fight back the attack. If they have even a slight doubt about Hindus not behaving properly with Muslims, the Government does not hesitate to torture them; but it sympathises with any anti-Hindu act of Muslims, even if it is proved in the court. Government has always been partial toward Muslims, be it riots in Bhivandi or treatment given to terrorist Kasab. The Congress rulers have never felt like changing their pervert attitude to improve their image. So, people should now organize a rally, marching towards the office of the Human Rights Commission at Boribandar, Mumbai, to give justice to Sadhvi Pragyasingh.
