Take action on doctors delaying treatment to Sadhvi: Gorhe

Jeyshtha Pornima

Why Human Rights Commission members are keeping mum on this issue?

Mumbai: The so-called accused in Malegaon bomb blast case, Sadhvi Pradnysinh Thakur is not getting timely treatment. (This is Hindu-hatred of the front-led government! – Editor SP) As such, action should be taken against the concerned doctors. The above demand was made by Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Shiv Sena MLA during the session of Legislative Council. (The front government is deliberately mistreating Hindu saints, therefore, points raised in such manner would not affect the government in any way. The Opposition Parties should now do something that would make the ruling party members break into sweat. – Editor SP)

Dr. Gorhe said, “Indian Constitution so also many laws have laid down the procedure to be followed on handling the accused. Sadhvi Pradnyasinh, the so-called accused had complained to the Court about her backache problem. The Court passed an order on 3rd June 2009 to admit her to J. J. Hospital for treatment; but the special squad assigned for her security arrived late by 5 hours and she could reach the hospital only by 11.00 p.m. No treatment was started even after an hour of medical check up. Dr. Ajay Chandanwale, the Orthopedic Surgeon admitted her only after intervention of the Dean, Dr. Rajendra Inamdar. Even on 30th May and 1st June, doctors at J. J. Hospital had refused to treat her. This shows disregard of guiding principles in handling accused females. We have tried to draw attention of the State and Central judiciary committees for protection of women, on a number of occasions. There are instructions of even State Women Commission in this regard and the Government must take a note of the same.

Preferential treatment: Qasab chosen over Sadhvi

Jyeshtha Shuddha Trayodashi

June 05, 2009

O Hindus, see what is happening in Hindu Majority country India? A terrorist who killed hundreds of Indians openly is being treated so well & on the other hand, Sadhvi Pragya, a Malegaon blast accused will get treatment after Kasab because she is Hindu, though Court has not yet confirmed her involvement in Blast. O Hindus, elect pro-Hindu Govt. to change this situation!

Treating Kasab and the sadhvi at JJ Hospital together will overburden security forces, say police

The lone surviving terrorist of the 26/11 terror attacks, Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, has been receiving preferential treatment, quite literally. Kasab, who is suffering from an eye infection, will soon be rushed to J J Hospital, but at the cost of the Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. The police seem to have taken Qasab’s infection more seriously than the sadhvi’s spondylosis.

And if the Rs 2 crore spent on Kasab’s security, making him India’s costliest prisoner, was not enough, the eye treatment is expected to cost the taxpayer an additional Rs 3 lakh, which will include transporting Kasab from Arthur Road Jail to the hospital and the security arrangements.

The sadhvi’s treatment has been put on hold, as treating both the high profile prisoners at the same time at the hospital may put too much pressure on the security forces, informed police sources.

Delaying treatment

According to the sadhvi’s advocate Naveen Chomal, Special Judge M P Puranik yesterday advised that she should be moved to the hospital immediately for treatment. "She has been complaining of severe back pain over the past few weeks. However, the jail authorities have deferred moving her to J J Hospital on the pretext that there are no guards to escort her," Chomal told MiD DAY.

Lawyer clueless

Interestingly, Kasab’s lawyer Abbas Kazmi was unaware about his eye problem. According to him, Kasab probably complained to jail authorities about the infection. "The jail authorities are yet to inform me about his treatment," he said. It is still not clear how Kasab developed the infection, but it could be attributed to unhygienic conditions in and around the cell, informed sources.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing at the J J Hospital to admit Kasab. The ophthalmology department near the prisoners’ ward is being readied for his treatment, said hospital officials.

Why was the sadhvi hospitalised earlier?

In Byculla jail, the sadhvi had developed a skin infection in her right armpit, which later spread to her arm. Her condition worsened after she gave up solid foods on allegedly finding a portion of a raw egg in the boiled cabbage that she was served.

On March 6, she went on a liquid diet, but had to be admitted to JJ Hospital on March 27, for dehydration and worsening of the skin infection. In hospital, she was put on an intravenous drip. The admission was as per the orders of the special MCOCA court to the Byculla jail authorities.
