Nirmal Khatri booked for sharing ‘RSS worker’s photo with false info’

The FIR was lodged at Sadar police station in Agra by RSS worker Ajit Chahar.

State Congress president Nirmal Khatri was booked on Friday for allegedly sharing a photograph of an RSS worker on Facebook with a “false” description that claimed that he was being beaten up for robbing Chennai flood victims.

The FIR was lodged at Sadar police station in Agra by RSS worker Ajit Chahar. The photograph in question showed Chahar being beaten up by police. Chahar has alleged that the photograph was taken by a photojournalist during a police lathicharge on RSS’ bicycle rally in Agra in 2012.

BJP MLA Yogendra Upadhyaya, who met the Agra SSP, said the same photograph with a changed caption — RSS worker being beaten up for harassing a girl — was first shared on the social media by Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress president about seven months ago.

“Khatri shared the same picture. This time, the caption said that the RSS worker was being beaten up for robbing those affected by Chennai floods. Ajit Chahar, who is in the picture, saw it and decided to lodge a complaint,” said Upadhyaya, adding the accused should be booked under NSA.

Agra Sadar Bazar SHO Pahup Singh said an FIR has been lodged against three persons, including Khatri, under Section 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) of the IPC and Section 66-D of the IT Act.

When contacted, Khatri claimed he had seen the link of the picture on Facebook and shared it without opening its content. “When I came to know about its content, I removed the post,” he said.
