Trailer of the upcoming film ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was recently released. From a song ‘Pinga’, it was observed that there was distortion of history. This film is based on life of Shrimant Bajirao Peshave and on true characters. Udaysingh Peshave, a descendant of Peshave has written a letter to the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadanvis about insult of the then noble ladies from royal families. He has demanded that the controversial song should be removed from the film.

Shraddha Mehta, history-lover from Pune has started a page on Facebook named ‘Ban the movie ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ which has received very good response in a short span of time. Many history-patrons have extended support to her and they are ready to fight legal battle against the film. Mehta said about this film, “I saw scene of the song ‘Pinga’. The attires of Kashibai and Mastaani are improper. The song does not at all look like sung on the occasion of ‘Mangalagauri’. It looks like a ‘jugal-bandi’ shown in ‘Tamasha’. Bhansali has distorted history through this film which is quite evident from its trailer. Instead of showing valour of Bajirao Peshave; showing just love story is stupidity. This film can send wrong message about Bajirao; therefore, some are thinking about going to Court against the film. Discussions are going on with advocates and soon, decision will be taken.”

‘On-line’ petition against the film !

Few history-lovers have filed a petition for bringing stay on release of ‘Bajirao Mastaani’ film through the website ‘change.org’. So far, 2490 people have supported it.

  1. What right Bhansali has to distort history for the sake entertainment ?
  2. Shouldn’t film makers not take care that their films do not hurt sentiments of people towards religion, Deities and great national leaders ?
  3. Is it not dissipated to abuse real characters by playing with history in the name of freedom of expression ?
  4. Bhansaliji, isn’t it possible to make a good film by depicting true history, as it is ?
