Independent MLA attacked over his stance on beef ban issue
NEW DELHI : In the latest incident, ink was thrown at Indian-held Kashmir MLA Engineer Rashid here on Monday.
The independent MLA was attacked over his stance on the beef ban issue. On October 7 he had been beaten up by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members in the assembly a day after he had reportedly hosted a ‘beef party’.
Speaking to journalists after the incident, Engineer Rashid asked if this was Modi’s India or Gandhi’s. A spokesman for India’s opposition Congress Party condemned the incident and said that it was unacceptable. Shiv Sena has also been carrying out attacks in a wave of anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan sentiment. Shiv Sena co-governs the Indian state of Maharashtra with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP.
