18 held in Madhya Pradesh on charges of cow slaughter

cowsSix Muslim men, charged with cow slaughter in Khandwa, were sent to jail on Tuesday, a day after they surrendered.

With their surrender, the total number of Muslim men who have been arrested since a police raid in Imlipura has reached 18. The raid that was conducted a fortnight ago in Imlipura, a Muslim locality, led to the release of hundreds of cattle.

“We kept mounting pressure on the accused… that forced them to finally surrender,’’ said Anil Sharma, in-charge of Moghat Police Station.

However, advocate Nafis Kureshi, who represents several accused, said, “No cow was slaughtered and no beef was seized but several people were booked under the cow slaughter legislation.’’
