Mumbai: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted a memorandum to opposition leaders of the Legislative Assembly (LA) to stop pressure tactics used by the Andha-shraddha Nirmula Samiti (ANS) for getting the proposed Bill on "Maharashtra Eradication of Black Magic, Dreadful and Undesirable practices Bill, 2005" passed in the winter session.
The memorandum was submitted to Shri. Ramdas Kadam, Opposition leader of the LA; Shri. Subhash Desai, Shiv Sena MLA; Shri. Diwakar Raote, MLA and Opposition group leader of Shiv Sena in the Legislative Council (LC); Shri. Pandurang Fundkar, Opposition leader of the LC and other members of the Joint Review Committee.
All of them have assured the HJS' delegation that the issue of malpractices by ANS will be taken up for public opinion. HJS has stated in the memorandum that Dr. Narendra Dabholkar of the ANS brought boxes containing votes from the public on the last day (30th September 2007) at 5.00 p.m. and announced to the media persons that he had 80,000 votes in favour of passing the Act. Can a bunch of such opinions be considered as public opinion?
Resolutions have been unanimously passed in all Municipal Corporations, municipal councils, Zilla Parishadas in the State against passing the above Act. This indicates that the Bill is opposed by millions of people. The Bill should therefore, be quashed without falling prey to pressure tactics and false propaganda by the ANS.
