Pune (Maharashtra): Barring a few exceptions, Ganesh-devotees preferred to immerse idols in flowing water of the river after 1-1/1 days festival. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS)’s drive against immersion in artificial water tanks and donation of idols was a great success. Andh-sharddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANS), misguiding people on pollution of water due to immersion, was conspicuous by absence of its members at all central immersion sites.

Immersion started in the afternoon and in the evening, the ‘ghats’ became very crowded. At the ‘ghats’ at Nene, Omkareshwar, Bhide bridge, Rajaram bridge, HJS undertook campaign against immersion of idols in water tanks and donation of idols. HJS members explained the science behind immersion of idols in flowing water after which there was hardly anyone who immersed idol in water tank. Pamphlets explaining the science behind immersion were also distributed at the sites. On understanding the science, devotees happily turned to river for immersion.
