Swamy writes to PM Modi about the implementation of Hindutva agenda

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention against the “poor” judgement of the government’s legal officials, cautioning that if the trend in the thinking and inclination of of the law officials did not change, the NDA government would get “a very bad name in the public, just as Indira Gandhi got during the Emergency of 1975-77.”

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Swamy, a BJP national executive member, has also asked Modi to prevail upon party president Amit Shah to convene a meeting of the BJP national executive on the implementation of Hindutva agenda as promised in the 2014 election manifesto. He said Shah had not replied to his letter even after four months, on issues which are “dear to the hearts of all our party workers and the Sangh Parivar.” Swamy recalled the BJP’s promise to construct the Ram Temple if possible by legal measures.

The BJP leader has taken an exception to the stand of the government’s law officers on a Special Leave Petition he filed on providing facilities to Ram bhakts at Ayodhya. Complaining that the the ASG has been seeking adjournments repeatedly, Swamy asked the PM to direct the Law Ministry to file an affidavit on the matter before July 25 so that he could get a favourable direction for the Ram bhakts by August.

According to Swamy, the government’s law officers have been showing “poor judgement” in crucial matters like the deletion of controversial section in the IT Act, National Judicial Appointments’ Commission Act and on the issue of criminal defamation. Swamy said the government took a stand against Section 66A of the IT Act that was struck down by the court . He said that the NJAC as an alternative to the collegium system appeared to be an arbitrarily conceived idea.
