#BanMohallaAssi – Let us unite to stop insult of Shiva and Hindu Dharma in ‘Mohalla Assi’ movie

Hindus need to unite and oppose in lawful manner, a film which denigrates Lord Shiva and and shows pilgrim place Varanasi in negative light

Director Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi’s upcoming movie Mohalla Assi’s trailer was released a few days ago. Mohalla Assi is based on Varanasi, a pilgrim place of immense importance to the Hindus. The trailer shows numerous dialogues and scenes which show Varanasi in negative light. Also included in the trailer are scenes, where a character in the guise of Lord Shiva is shown as a common street hustler and also seen mouthing some very foul language. The scenes not only hurt the sentiments of the Hindus but also malign the image of the holy city of Varanasi.

To,
1. Mr. Pahlaj Nihalani, Central Board of Film Certification,
2. Shri. Arun Jaitley, Minister for Information and Broadcasting
3. The Sectretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

Dear Sirs,

This is in reference to the recent events surrounding the upcoming Hindi movie 'Mohalla Assi' starring Sunny Deol, Sakshi Tanwar and others, directed by Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwiwedi; that is to be released in October-November 2015 as per media reports.

As you may be aware, the trailer of the movie has kicked up a storm with the extremely offensive anti-Hindu content. The trailer shows numerous dialogues and scenes which show Varanasi in negative light. Also included in the trailer are scenes, where a character in the guise of Bhagwan Shiva is shown as a common street hustler and also seen mouthing some very foul language. The scenes not only hurt the sentiments of the Hindus but also malign the image of the holy city of Varanasi.

Due to this, agitated Hindus all over the country have been staging peaceful demonstrations, filing Criminal Complaint (under section 295A of IPC) and voicing their protests on various platforms. Even Swami Narendrananda Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Kashi Sumeru Peeth has personally registered complaint against this movie in the police station.

Recently, Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Swaroopanand Saraswatiji also expressed His unhappiness about the movie’s negative portrayal of Varanasi and the people there.

With this in view, I request you to respect the sentiments of Hindus and not to issue any certificate to the movie Mohalla Assi.

Regards,

Why we should protest against ‘Mohalla Assi’ ?

1. Movie tries to hurt religious sentiments of Hindus – Many people living in holy city of Varanasi, from Sadhu to Sanyasi and from housewife to actor dresses as Bhagwan Shiv are using abusive and filthy language

2. Conspiracy to malign Bhagwan Shiv, a highly revered deity of a billion Hindus

3. Movie tries to defame Varanasi, a holy city for Hindus ( a person says ‘Har Har Mahadev ke saath bh*sad*k* ka nara toh Kashi ka sarwajanik abhiwadan hai bhaiya’. The Shankaracharya of Dwarakapeeth has clarified that when people accidentally utter any obscenity, they immediately repent by taking Lord Shiva’s name. It has been completely misrepresented in the movie dialogue.)

4. Swami Narendrananda Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Kashi Sumeru Peeth has personnaly lodged complaint against ‘Mohalla Assi’ for insulting Hindu Dharma, Shiv and Varanasi.

Some of the filthy dialogues from the movie trailer

The following dialogues malign the image of the Holy city of Varanasi

1. Maharaj wo mineral water se kaam nai chalega kya ?

Mineral Water chaiye toh kahin aur jao bh*sk**e (A priest is telling this to a pilgrim)

2. Kaun Sanskrit padh raha hai, sab sale Banaras mein charas, ganja aur rukney ka bahana dhoond rahe hai

3. Bina gaali ke yahan pyaar aur aashirwad ka len den hota hai kya ?

4. Har Har Mahadev ke saath bh*sad*k* ka nara toh Kashi ka sarwajanik abhiwadan hai bhaiya (The Shankaracharya of Dwarakapeeth has clarified that when people accidentally utter any obscenity, they immediately repent by taking Lord Shiva’s name. It has been completely misrepresented in the movie dialogue.)

Looking at the dialogues any person will come to a conclusion that the Hindus living in Varanasi are uncouth and foul mouthed !

The following dialogues are uttered by an actor who is dressed as Lord Shiva.

1. Uth Ch**tiy*, jahan tuney mujhe rakha hai, wo mandir hai ya maachis ?

2. Excuse me! Photo only with lord Shiva, 100 Rs.! With Holy Ganga water 200 Rs.! (The actor addresses this to a group of foreign visitors)

These dialogues are highly denigrating! To show Lord Shiva as a common street hustler and also to make the actor utter such filthy dialogues is despicable to say the least. Moreover, Varanasi is a place which is held sacred by Hindus, because it is believed that Lord Shiva incarnated here in the form of a brilliant pillar of Light. To show the same Shiva in such poor taste seems to be a deliberate attempt to hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
