Nashik (Maharashtra) : Nashik Municipal Corporation and District Collector had jointly undertaken a drive on 5th June, on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’, for cleaning of River Godavari. Seekers of Sanatan Sanstha and members of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) spontaneously participated in this drive. More than 40 HJS members and Sanatan seekers participated in cleaning drive, in and around the area of Saint Gadge Maharaj bridge from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Other voluntary organizations, teachers and Government officers from Nashik district also joined the drive.

1. The District Collector had made an appeal to all voluntary organizations 4 days back in this connection; therefore, Sanatan seeker, Shri. Neelkanth Naik and Shri. Sunil Ghanavat of HJS contacted and met the additional District Collector Shri. Raghunath Gawade expressing their wish to join this drive.

2. Accordingly, all the seekers reached the river bank at 7.00 a.m. with all necessary things required for undertaking the drive.

3. The cleaning operation was started with making a prayer to Bhagavan Srikrushna and ‘Harit-Kumbh’; followed with seekers actually entering the river water and removing all trash, slush etc. from the water.

4. All other organizations, Government officers and police said that members of HJS and Sanatan Sanstha had worked very sincerely and honestly.

5. Sanatan seekers were the first people to remove the slush from that area after which volunteers of other organizations followed suit.

6. Sanatan and HJS participated in the drive for maintaining sanctity of River Godavari and the need to clean the river bed in view of forthcoming ‘Sinhastha Kumbh Mela’.
