VHP meeting held at Marchant Club ground with thousand followers of VHP and Dr Togadia. West Bengal police arrested 1000 Hindu activists from Raiganj. VHP Calls Raiganj Bandh on 6th April against Pro Muslim TMC Govt in WB.

Raiganj (WB) : The West Bengal police on Sunday arrested around 1000 Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists after they entered the Merchant Club ground of Raiganj (the district HQ of North Dinajpur) and started the pre-scheduled meeting of VHP meant for its Golden Jubilee celebration.

The meeting of VHP continued over 25 minutes without mike and police rushed to the ground to stop the meeting and cleared the ground after posting a heavy police contingent around the spot. The intelligence department of police found completely failure to give any prior information about the spontaneous public gathering in that ground  with saffron flags, posters and festoons.

Though a section of media wanted to show the arrest of only ‘300’ persons, but thousand of VHP supporters courted arrest and it was big trouble for the police with a huge numbers of arrestees.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state government’s Home Ministry had banned the entry of Togadia into the state, stating that his entry may lead to communal tension and ‘disturbance of public tranquillity’.

According to reports, the thousands of VHP, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Manch and pro RSS activists were marching towards a ‘Dharm Sammelan’ meeting at the Raiganj Merchant Club ground to commemorate the VHP’s golden jubilee celebrations, when the police detained them. But, another sections of VHP supporters entered into the venue and started the meeting with chanting ‘Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram’!

The West Bengal government had deployed units of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the state police at the venue, anticipating a law and order problem. DIG-Malda Range, Satyajit Banerjee said that ‘the VHP had scheduled a programme at the venue which was not permissible and therefore police arrested some of the party workers’.

The entire Raiganj town turned as Police and RAF Camps, but thousand of Hindus took the streets with high valour shouting Jai Shri Ram, Bharat Mata Ki Hai, Hindu Hindu Ek ho, Hindu Rashtra Ki Jai, Bajrangvali Ki Jai, Vande Mataram and Dr Togadia Jindavad – Mamtaz Banerjee-TMC Murdavad.

According to reports, the VHP had later filed a writ petition in the Calcutta High Court challenging the prohibitory order government against Togadia. Togadia eventually cancelled his visit to the state and alleged that West Bengal government’s ban on his entry was more due to political reasons rather than administrative reasons.

As a strategy, VHP issued earlier that it would maintain the dictum of the State Govt by not holding any meeting in Marchant Club. But, thousands of VHP supporters also took the matter as a prestige of 100 crores Hindus of India and they successfully crashed the ego of Pro-Muslim Chief Minister of West Bengal by holding the meeting at the scheduled venue, startling the entire police force.

As a protest of anti Hindu stand of West Bengal Govt, the ruling TMC and culpable CM Mamata Banerjee, the VHP calls a 12 hrs Bandh (shut down) in Raiganj on Monday, 6th April 2015.
