HJS compel ESG to stop denigration of Sri Ganesh

By Staff Reporter

Panaji (Goa): A 15 feet idol of Sri Ganesh made from coconuts had been lying in a denigrated state in a corridor of the Inox complex for the past three months. It had been used at the 38th IFFI at the Kala Academy from 23rd November to 3rd December as a show piece. When the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti learnt about how the idol was lying denigrated  pecked by crows and sparrows and full of their droppings  with a mere framework, all the coconuts being removed after the Wine festival held there, on 5th March 2008 it served a memorandum on the Chief Minister of Goa, the Art and Culture department and the ESG of how the religious sentiments of the Hindus have been hurt by this act. Taking cognizance of this the concerned authority, the ESG arranged for immersion of the idol and through a letter conveyed its apology to the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti for its negligence.
