Oppose 'Valentine's Day' that promotes immorality!

February 12, 2008

Visit campaign - Beware of 'Valentine Day'

14th February is popularly known as 'Valentine's Day'. Adolescent girls and boys express their love for each other by exchanging flowers and gifts on this day. Most of the times, these adolescents indulge in immoral acts under the pretext of 'Valentine's Day'. In a country like Bharat, that is enriched with values, such moral degradation of the youth is indeed a serious social problem.

Bharatiya youth, do not blindly ape the Western culture but follow our age-old traditions and values!

When someone extends a helping hand, a Westerner will acknowledge it by offering ‘thanks’ and walk away; whereas an Indian will never forget a good deed or a favour bestowed upon him by someone. Parents relentlessly toil for our happiness since our birth and it is next to impossible to repay this debt. That is the precise reason why the parents have been treated as Guru in Indian culture. Indian culture encourages the youth to express their love and respect for their parents by bowing and seeking their blessings everyday. We do not celebrate ‘Father’s or Mother’s day’ like Westerners. Present Indian young generation is blindly following Western culture by celebrating ‘Friendship Day’, ‘Valentine Day’, ‘Rose Day’, ‘Jeans’s Day’ etc. Such celebrations do not exhibit true love and gratitude but is an excuse for enjoyment and is just a formality without any meaning. The love shown through such celebration is restricted to a day. Today’s youth should realize that what one owes to his parents can not be repaid by ‘cutting cake’, ‘presenting a greetings card’ or by celebrating a ‘Day’; but the real repayment would be to become an ideal son or an ideal daughter i.e. to become an ideal citizen, to look after them like the great devotee ‘Bhakta Prahlad’.

Why do the moral Hindus need to remember the sinful Valentine?

In the 3rd Century, a Roman king named Cloudius II issued an order that 'The youth should refrain from marriage and join the army'. In this regard, St. Valentine, a priest, revolted against the king; however he was given death penalty by the king. While in prison, St. Valentine fell in love with the prison attendant's young daughter. It is sinful for a priest to get attracted to a lady. Why should the people of Bharat, having a Hindu-majority population, who attach utmost importance to values, cherish memories of a sinful so-called priest?

Stop cultural denigration, Say No to 'Valentine's!
Stop cultural denigration, Say No to 'Valentine's!

'Valentines Day' being insignificant from the viewpoint of reaping spiritual benefits!

1. In case of festivals and celebrations as per the Hindu Dharma, humans benefit from the divine frequencies transmitted from the Universe on these days. On the contrary, there is no such benefit in case of 'Valentine's Day.'

2. Various days of the likes of 'Valentine's Day' that have originated from the blind emulation of the western culture are based on materialism. A person who follows them acquires the raja-tama pre-dominant state due to degradation of values and decency. On the contrary, regular practise of values, festivals, traditions and religious observances as per the Hindu culture helps one acquire a sattvik (pious) state of mind and makes one happy, content and balanced.

An appeal to devout and patriotic citizens!

1. Get in touch with professors, principal, board of directors and students associations of colleges and appeal to them to spread awareness amongst students about not celebrating 'Valentines Day'. Also, create awareness in this regard amongst friends and contacts.

2. Stage peaceful protests, through telephonic calls, personal visits or other lawful ways, against colleges that consent celebration of  'Valentine's Day'!

It is time to change the days that defy our ethos ! -  H.H. Dr. Jayant Athavale, Founder, Sanatan Sanstha

H.H. Dr. Athavale
H.H. Dr. Athavale
Since Hinduism is ancient and eternal, it relates everything to various forms of God. Following examples will bring home the Greatness of Hinduism. They will also throw light on how the Bharatiyas  are still under the psychological bondage of the British.

Example 1: The frequencies of Prajapati come to the Earth in larger measures on the day of Gudipadva. However instead of celebrating that day as the 'New Year' day, the Government celebrates 1st January as the New Year’s day, which is not based on any Principle.
Example 2: Instead of calculating time based on the Bhartiya Culture (‘Shalivahan Shaka’) the Government uses the Christian Era (A.D), which has no relevance to any particular time or zone.
Example 3: The Guru Principle decends on Earth in large measures on the day of Gurupournima. In all fairness that day should be celebrated as 'Teachers Day'. However it is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Ex-President Dr.Radhakrishnan.

In the Ishwariya Rajya (Divine Kingdom) we are going to change all such things which are not related to Hindu Religion and Culture in anyway.

Hindus ! Performing an act on a certain day will not stop the harm caused to Dharma ! The only solution to this problem is giving Dharmashikshan to the society every single day ! - Editor

Live and let live. Yes immoral and antisocial behaviour is not acceptable as per law of the country, not only in India but every where else, but all adults have a right of freedom and should be allowed what they consider right, unless their actions infringe other people's rights or harm others. Not only Valentine,we must find a way to stop following western culture.
in general the blind following of western culture with open eyes has already corrupted indian youth today.no teenage girls and boys wear traditional cloths.Look at their hairdos, clothing its all western now.
ask them to give 5 freedom fighter names, they would stutter.and surely will spit out 10 h'wood actors quick.
it would have been fine with the appearance. However the mindset and thought process has inclined towards western culture.Media (especially idiot's box) has been presenting so many offensive programs, cant believe it.well i can go on howz culture has been damaged, deteriorated, due to western culture.my 2 cents.

I agree with the fact that there is no understanding behind the celebration of Valentine's Day. However, just saying that something is wrong is not a solution to the problem. If you feel so strong about this issue, what have you done to bring about a change? Yes, writing an article and making a point is helpful, but unless you go out in to the world and do something about it, nothing is going to change. (Many groups motivated by HJS are creating awareness at various colleges in India. You can also take such initiative. You can send link of this article to your friends or distribute the prints. - Editor )

I am completely opposed to the so called valentines day, which is being glorified in all the forms of media, just to enhance their profits. Even in matters of love, do we have to immitate the west? Dont we have our own festival of love, called the Basant Panchami, which celebrates saatvik prem? Have we lost the self respect for which thousands of our patriots gave up their life? Should their sacrifice go waste? A thorough introspection is required.

It is a pity that we 'Hindus' foolishly emulate the west. We don't try to understand the great culture and moral values for which our country is known the world. The media in our country is doing collossal damage to our religion. The media(especislly the English media) has only one motto-The more they criticise Hinduism and glorify other religions, the true secular they are! Yes!We need to educate our youth about India-India that is spiritual, India that is moral and India that never cared for material world.

But I also believe that correction should start from self. Many a times as a principle we oppose, but our loved once do participate. If everyone can stop in their own house, there will be dramatic cut in such celebrations.

The root cause is education system imposed by Britisher's time, and it has deep roots in our society. And there are little chance to eradicate it.

Valentine day's celebration is commercially motivated to blow-out cash from the pocket of those weak minded people who don't understand values in life. Traders & advertisers reap rich rewards for themselves from this weak minded modern youth..

We have festival of fun like Holi to greet season of fertility; limited to social interaction with dignity, respect & freedom for the day.

Hindu is known for essence of living & not trading. Let us enjoy the life in its full form & creative expressions, minus commercialization.. It is live social reorganization, older then time immemorial, that the world calls Hindu.. let-us live & not tread up to these values.

Valentine day is an opportunity for girls (some - without full dress) just to sit behind a boy on a vehicle and do some undescent things in public. They just do not have any respect for elders. Unless an until the girls (some) decide to transform themselves these valentine day celebration won't stop. So its my sincere request to the girls(some) to try and avoid such indescent behaviour, because the boys are inspired by your behaviour only.

I think Valentine's Day is nothing but a big farce. In western countries where it is most popularly celebrated wonder why people take the pains to celebrate it where marriages are broken overnight and love is mistaken for lust. In India and other eastern countries it is a day where businesses such as flower merchants, goldsmiths, clothes stores etc look forward to - to increase their sales to make more money, sadly our youth are falling for it.

For these companies slavery is not yet over, even after independence.

My viewpoint :
In America, V-day is more celebrated for its commercial reasons such as big sales and giving of gifts and merchandise by compulsive shoppers. The root reason of this Christian holiday to commemorate priest/saint Valentine has been long lost and almost forgotten.

This now remains a holiday for teenagers to confess to their lovers and show their affection by sending gifts. I think it is very shallow holiday with very little value and can be easily ignored as any other day when such loving gestures can easily be professed.

Regards,
Sammy.

Celebrating Valentine's day in India is nothing but aping the west . There were two aupsicious days during these two months viz. Uttaryana punya kal, Radah saptami both highlighting the Sun god. I would like to ask the people here, have they tried to stop their sons and daughters ,grandsons , granddaughters and matter fact the grown up people in India to stop celebrating valentine day?, It is easy said than done. I believe the Bollywood has lot to be blamed, including the media at times. I also believe morality in India is lower than ever before. Indians do need" jagruti" if they want to forge ahead in culture field. log on www.faithfreedom.org

I appreciate ur concern... but r u treating the root.... instead of just raising voice against Valentine will not help at all...

Check at your own home or society... how many youngsters are affected by the western culture, media is hightly responsible, checkout todays girls, the kind of dress they wear... may b in our own homes. Day by day the body exposure is increasing, that creates an impact on many people who are watching these girls. Then when the mind is exposed to such exposures it provokes a person who is unable to control his emotions, then he commits rape or molestations in the society. There is no point in punishing these people.V all must ask all girls to wear Indian clothes

Celebrating all these days is foolish. In my college days I had never celebrated Valentine, rose, tie or jeans day. The fact that celebration of theses days in colleges from last few yeards has increased is that parents don't have time to pay attention to their childrens as they (parents) are behind money. I suspect that foreigners may have vested interest in spreading celebration of these days in BHARAT.

Once the notion of celebrating valentines day has seeped into main stream India, (which is encouraged more for commercial reasons to encourage sale of cards and related items) it will be counter productive to ban it instead use this day to promote the institution of marriage and the relation between husband and wife.

What matters is EDUCATION.Instead of writing articles over the nets and seeking comments each one of us should take a oath to educate the youth against this moraldegeneration going in the name of an imported festival Valentine's day.

These so called celebrations (Valentines, Mothers,Fathers etc etc) are just superfacial and paying lip service just one day in ONE WHOLE YEAR.. It is too much commercialised. Who is the actual beneficiary of such occassions? Isn't it the commercial people who make fortunes on such occassions? And these are the people who promote such days so aggressively.
Another issue that makes me sick is when I hear Indian people (especially actors and actresses) talking in English during stage performances, film festivals, awards nights etc etc - I cant understand where has this sick culture crept in from. These people are in no way helping the future generations.

Continued from my last article.

My parents were born overseas and naturally I was born thousands of miles away from India and live in a Wesrtern country now but I am very proud of my heritage, my language (Hindi), my values and my culture. And I hate it when I hear these Indians (who speak fluent Hindi in films, Radio Stations and TV presentations) speak in English on stage and other public occassions.

Valentine's day is something that is used for business purpose only where the customers are young generation. In India such things are nothing but luxury. Moreover injecting the rotten blood of western culture in our pure and beautiful Indian culture is a sinful act.

Valentine's day is a day when the affluent western society expects couples (married and unmarried) to express their love in the form of gifts so that shop owners and company owners can accumulate for wealth. As India's middle class is increasingly tasting the goodies of capitalism, it is but natural to expect them to celebrate this day. Never the less I don't oppose other people celebrating this day, because I don't have the right to do so. Each individual has the right to celebrate or not celebrate this day. Its up to them to decide. I believe in the Brahman which is present in each and every individual. Today's Hindus know nothing about their religion. They only know how to show chauvinism

Our ancient heritage has prescribed a balanced view of life which will enable spiritual development along with normal life. There are a few good things in western culture which we can assimilate. There is no need to copy the western way of life like celebrating valentine day. There is already a steady deterioration of values in our countrydue to the impact of media

Year on Year this V-day is becoming popular in our mother land. If we and our future generation need to live in this country as Hindus without getting westernized. I feel its not only opposing this day but also to remove this from our system. I feel its our responsibility to educate our friends and relatives to oppose. If we start this know, i'm sure after few years we will have our mother land free from this nusense.

Why can't we celebrate Matri-Pitri divas, so that we can mold our youths from Physically attracted love to their parents love. On this day they should pray for good health and good life for their parents, similarly parents should shover love on their children (as they always do). This will stop youths from going towards bad culture and they will learn to respect their parents.

I think Valentine's Day is nothing but a big farce. In western countries where it is most popularly celebrated wonder why people take the pains to celebrate it where marriages are broken overnight and love is mistaken for lust. In India and other eastern countries it is a day where businesses such as flower merchants, goldsmiths, clothes stores etc look forward to - to increase their sales to make more money, sadly our youth are falling for it.''''

How can a stranger be your valentine day love?
Fools love only on one-day valentine day to fool themselves.
Valentine day love is a stranger persons adulltered love before marriage which ruins you for whole life.

I oppose the celebration of highly commercialized Western Festival. All parents need to teach their kids what is right & what is wrong. May be parents (who feel proud in celebrating Western/Christian festivals) needs to learn themselves first.

I too, oppose the stupid Valentine's Day. It is nothing but a commecial racket, for card makers, candy makers, and florists to make lots of money. The idea that you can be as unloving as you want for 364 days, yet get all loving and kind for one day, shows that it was developed by people who have no sense of what true love is all about.
