How many of the persons associated with Shri Mahalakshmi Devasthan are honest and loyal to Devasthan Vyavasthapan Samiti ? – asks District Collector, Kolhapur

Kolhapur (Maharashtra) : ‘It is very easy to continuously oppose and criticize management of ‘Paschim Maharashtra Devasthan Vyavasthapan Samiti (PMDS)’. People have grabbed Devasthan’s land. Farmer cultivating 30-40 tonnes of sugarcane on Devasthan’s land, is not ready to pay tax of Rs. 1200 per annum. A shopkeeper goes to Court when we go for removing encroachments in Shri Mahalakshmi Temple. A retired officer was appointed for keeping note of land, attempts were made to free 200 meters area of the temple of encroachments; but that was also opposed. How many people associated with Shri Mahalakshmi Temple are honest and loyal to Devasthan Vyavasthapan Samiti ?’, was the question asked by District Collector Rajaram Mane, while expressing his opinion that there was need for an extensive movement and positive approach for bringing improvement in the working of Devasthan Samiti.

The above news has been published by ‘Dainik Lokmat’ on 9th February 2015. (All Presidents of PMDS and District Collectors have failed to bring transparency in managing the Samiti. Corruption in management has been deliberately overlooked; therefore, all Presidents are responsible for rising corruption and stringent action should be taken against them because without connivance of Devasthan administration and its members, misappropriations of such huge extent were not possible. District Collectors could have put curb on the corruption using law, police and Government machinery; but their indifference has resulted in increase in corruption. The District Collector should therefore, first find out how many administrative officers associated with Devasthan Samiti were loyal to Samiti rather than other associated persons’ loyalty ! – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

Shri. Rajaram Mane, District Collector

District Collector, Rajaram Mane says…..

1. It is necessary to bring improvement in Samiti’s working; but how can the system used for past 45 years be changed immediately ? (Irresponsible District Collector ! Why doesn’t Mane try to find out that who were guilty and what exactly went wrong in procedure followed for managing the Samiti ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

2. It is necessary to take decisions at policy level. I have tried to bring discipline in the working for past 3 years. (It is good thing. Now take action against those responsible for mismanagement.- Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

3. How many people, who bow before God 4 times in a day and are living on the income of Devasthan, cooperate with Devasthan Samiti? In fact, Samiti is losing income. (All administrative officers are responsible for the same. Why the District Collector did not take prompt action against such people despite having full power ? Who stopped him ? The administrative officers cannot shield themselves by making such statement. – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

4. Proposal for skilled manpower has been sent to the Government. An officer from Revenue Department is required for compiling information on Devasthan.

5. Persons from finance background are required for keeping accounts and auditing. Whatever work is done presently is at clerical level. (After exposing malpractices in management of PMDS, what is the point in making such demands ? Why demand for necessary requirement was not made earlier ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

6. That is the reason for such anarchy. Since I took over the management of Samiti, I have compiled information about 70% of land with Devasthan Samiti.

7. Positive response is expected from people while working for Samiti. (When there is negative approach towards arresting misappropriation by Devasthan samiti, how can District Collector expect positive response from people ? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) Whoever has cheated Samiti and grabbed its property/ wealth, will not be spared. We will make attempts at Government level. (It should have been done earlier. – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)
