Many devout Hindus complained to HJS about an incense stick company called ‘Darshan Incense’ using images of Hindu Deities on the product covers. HJS promptly sent a letter to Darshan Incense to create awareness about the denigration of the Deities as well as that the law forbids use of religious symbols for financial gains.

(Read Protest letter below)

As per Dharmashastra and spiritual science, the word, touch, form, taste, fragrance and the energy associated with them coexist. Whenever any image of a Deity (like Shrikrushna or Shri Ganesh) or a divine symbol (like Om or Swastik) is produced, the divine energy is present in that. However, when such inages are printed on covers holding incense sticks, consumers will use the incense sticks in the house / temple and once the box is empty, the covers eventually turn up in the waste bin or drains etc. So the same Deity in front of whose image the incense stick is waved, ends up in the waste bin. This amounts to denigration of revered Deities, which is hurtful to the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Even after repeated emails by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, we did not receive any reply from Darshan Incense. So volunteers from HJS met with the General Manager of the company who maintained that he did not receive the emails. However, when the volunteers explained how the covers with images of Deities were denigrating our beloved Deities, the company acknowledged it and promised to withdraw the images. However, even after repeated follow up calls and emails, Darshan Incense has not shown any commitment towards this, hence we are starting this protest campaign.

Now we appeal all devout Hindus to protest lawfully against Darshan Incense so that it should withdraw all defamatory product covers and also it should render unconditional apology to Hindus for hurting their religious sentiments. If they do not do so, then all Hindus should boycott the products which denigrate Hindu Deities.

 Dear Sir,

Subject : Request to stop the denigration of Hindu Deities on your Agarbatti, incent sticks, dhoop batti, etc.

Samiti is active throughout India and educating people about Dharma in scientific way, campaigning against malpractices done under religious practices and solving problems connected with National, Religious and social field. For further details please refer our website www.HinduJagruti.org .

We believe to the glorification of Hindu deities, through your products which will inspire millions of proud Indians and Hindus in the present difficult times. Hence we appreciate your efforts. However after use of agarbatti, incent sticks the packing material is thrown away every where which comes under feet of pedestrian, goes into the gutter and waste material etc. Thus we find that there is denigration of our deities , which hurts religious sentiments of Hindus. We have received lot of complaints for the same. We feel that you are increasing the business by using Hindu deities pictures but actually it is denigration and an offense as Indian Penal Code section 295A.

Further please note that using religious symbols on products is an offense as per Indian Trade Practice Act 1999. Due to our campaign people will not use such denigrating products which may affect your business.

In view of above we request you to stop the packing stationary having Hindu deity pictures and religious symbols immediately. Please acknowledge this letter and inform us in writing about action taken by you, failing which we will have to start a protest campaign.
