Protest : Irresponsible use of images of Hindu Sages on ‘Surya Brasil’ products

On July 3rd, 2014, alert Dharmabhimanis from the U.S. notified Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) regarding the irresponsible use of an image of a Hindu Rishi (Sage or Saint) on the packaging of hair coloring products such as henna cream and henna powder sold on the website, www.shopsuryabrasil.com. The website is using an image of a Sage, that too with a woman in an erotic position causing a denigration of Sages and Hinduism.

The HJS protest team wrote a protest letter addressed to Ms. Clélia Angelon, the founder of the company, explaining the denigration that is happening on her company’s WebPages, and how this hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus. In addition to this, the protest letter also mentioned how Sages are highly revered and respected in Hinduism for Their spiritual teachings and knowledge used for the welfare of mankind.

The HJS protest team has not received a response from Ms. Clélia Angelon yet, in spite of sending reminders.

Hence, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) now appeals to all its readers to protest against this appalling usage of images, peacefully and lawfully by either writing an email or calling the number below:

Subject: Complaints about the image of a Hindu Sage on your product packaging

|| Shree ||

Namaskar dear Clélia Angelon.

We at Hindu Janajagruti Samiti have received some complaints from Hindus regarding an image of a Hindu Rishi (Sage or Saint) on the packaging of hair coloring products such as henna cream and henna powder sold on your website, www.shopsuryabrasil.com

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is a registered NGO in India doing social, Hindu Dharma related and national welfare work. The Samiti is also active throughout the world, educating people about Hindu Dharma in a scientific way, campaigning against malpractices done as Hindu Dharma related practices and solving problems related to misrepresentation of Hindu Dharma. For further details please refer to our website www.HinduJagruti.org.

We are sending this request to you to discuss the images of the Hindu Rishi (Sage or Saint) on your henna cream and henna powder products. We understand that you practice yoga and meditation and you want your customers to use natural products. However, the use of an image of a Sage, that too with a woman in an erotic position, hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus. This picture is causing a denigration of Sages and Hinduism.

Sages are highly revered and respected in Hinduism and are considered to be the ultimate authority in Spirituality. Sages perform thousands of years of spiritual practice and possess supernatural powers which are utilized for the welfare of mankind. Through the ages, Hindu Sages have given everything to mankind selflessly; some have even sacrificed Their life just to save mankind. Their spiritual teachings and knowledge are an invaluable gift to the world due to which humans have benefitted physically, mentally and spiritually. Ayurveda, Yoga and meditation are in fact a gift from the Sages due to which millions of people are experiencing physical and mental benefits. Spiritually, Sages have guided people towards the ultimate Truth and attainment of everlasting Bliss. Hindu Sages performed many experiments and found out the most beneficial practices for humans. The depiction of a Sage on your products demeans Their spiritual authority and selflessness toward mankind. It is insulting to Hindus and hurts the religious sentiments of millions Hindu around the world. Hindus believe that even today there are Sages in the Himalayan mountains and are guiding human beings, so your depiction of a Sage on your products deeply hurts our religious feelings.

We urge you to consider the above points and immediately remove the images of Hindu Rishis (Sages or Saints) from your henna hair care products. We stress that our aim in bringing up these points is to educate and ensure that Hinduism gets accurately represented to society. Hinduism has been misrepresented at many levels. Though it is an ancient tradition, Hinduism has a lot to offer the modern world and we want children and adults alike to be able to understand and study it without it being misrepresented. You can take one step towards ensuring that Hinduism does not get slighted by removing the images of the Hindu Rishi (Sage) from henna hair care products and other related items as mentioned above.

Sincerely,

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti
