Denigration of Shivaji: Shiv Sainiks march to PWD office

Ratnagiri (Maharashtra): Shiv Sainks came to know that a picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been removed from the cabin of Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD) and dumped in trash. Furious Shiv sainiks marched to the office of PWD to seek an explanation for insulting the pride of Maharashtra in such manner. Shiv Sena demanded action against the Executive Engineer (EE) as the police reached the scene. The march was taken under the direction of Shri. Rajan Salvi, the former district-chief of Shiv Sena.

There were pictures of Mahatma Phule, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Savitribai Phule and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the cabin of Shri. N. B. Modake, the EE in PWD, North Zone. Shiv Sainiks lerant that out of the pictures of the leaders only picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was removed by Shri. Modake. Shiv Sainiks therefore, marched to the PWD office; but the concerned official was not available.

When Shri. Salvi asked Shri. Kulkarni, an officer from the main Office of PWD as to why picture of only Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was taken out when there were specific orders by the Government to display the said picture and why only pictures of Dalit leaders were kept. Shiv Sainiks requested officials to open a few locked rooms to find the picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. While searching the rooms, photographers and journalists were prohibited from taking photographs by Shri. Rajeev Mothani, the City Police Inspector. When the journalists insisted that it was necessary to take photographs so that people know the truth, there was a verbal skirmish between them. Finally, police did not allow photographers to take photographs.

The picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, however, could not be traced and Shiv Sainiks put up another picture of Shivaji Maharaj sitting on his throne. They were raising slogans acclaiming Shivaji Maharaj.
