Students from Shanu Patel School at Warje were explained about effects of crackers

Pune – Cummins India Ltd. and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) jointly undertook a drive this year to celebrate ‘Deepavali’, free of crackers as crackers cause pollution; besides wasting lot of money. On 18th October, under this drive, students of Shanu Patel School run under Shri. Shail Mallikarjuna Trust, Warje were explained about the ill effects of bursting crackers. Shri. Manoj Mahajan of HJS brought to students’ notice, the harm caused due to bursting of crackers and dissuaded them from bursting crackers. The students gave good response to his appeal.

Celebrate Diwali by avoiding use of crackers !

Pune, 17th October – Cummins India Pvt. Ltd. and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) undertook a drive to create awareness amongst people about harm caused due to crackers. The joint drive was organized near Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve statue in Kothrud area. The participants, 30 Cummins’ staff and 10 HJS activists, explained the ill-effects of bursting crackers and the pollution caused due to the same.. They had placards on which related matter was written to enlighten people, as well as handbills that were distributed. This was the first time that Cummins India had organized such a drive.  On 16th October, few staff members of Cummins had undertaken such drive to educate the traders on Laxmi Road. They have continued the handbill distribution drives in various residential colonies in Kothrud area and have visited nearly 4000 houses thus far. Similar awareness drive will be undertaken even on 18th October at Market Yard Road.

Shri. Pravin Naik of HJS informed that bursting crackers that inflict harm on the environment, when the country faces huge debts, is a kind of sedition. The citizens should do away with crackers from this Diwali.

Cummins India Company is actively involved in social work; especially in energy and environment fields. This Company had also taken part in HJS drive of protection of Khadakvasala water reservoir.

1. Let us make a resolve to not burst crackers !

2. Crackers increase trash, dust, poisonous smoke etc. causing harm to environment !

3. Let us illuminate the atmosphere with divine flame and celebrate Diwali without crackers !

Representation submitted to District Collector to stop sale of destructive and denigrating crackers!         

As a part of this drive, Cummins India staff members and HJS jointly submitted a representation to the District Collector demanding a curb on sale of crackers citing the following reasons

1. They are destructive as they cause many types of pollution in addition to health problems

2. Images of Hindu Deities and great National leaders on firecrackers amounts to denigration Shri. Suresh Jadhav, Dy. District Collector accepted the representation on behalf of the District Collector. Shri. Jadhav praised the initiative, “It is a very good drive. Next year, we would like to join you in this drive in creating awareness amongst citizens and students if you approach us in advance.” Shri. Jadhav promptly distributed the handbills on ‘ill effects of crackers’,  which were received positively by members of his staff.
