Bangladesh : Hindus demand steps to recover temples from illegal occupation

Khulna (Bangladesh) – Members of Hindu community and social workers in Khulna demanded the land and properties of local temples that are currently under the illegal occupation of local influential groups be freed.

The demand came at a press conference arranged by Jono Udyog, a social welfare organisation yesterday.

They mentioned that lands of some local temples including Rupshar Mohashoshan, Dolakhola Shitolabari Temple and Umanondo Shib Mondir were illegally grabbed by local influential.

They demanded that authorities of these temples be handed over to the temple management committees.

The members also demanded three-day holidays instead of one for celebrating the upcoming Durga Puja.

They pressed demands for tighter security and uncut supply of electricity at the temples to avoid any untoward situation during the celebrations.

In the press conference, speakers urged the government to increase grants and facilities in the temples.

They demanded additional forces of Rab and police be deployed in the temples during the celebrations.
