Apology letter by the school authorities

Siolim: In the year 2006, St. Francis Xavier’s Higher Secondary School of Arts, Science and Commerce at Siolim, Bardez, Goa had arranged mass prayers, in the name of musical programs, for all the students. Students participated in this program due to pressure from the school authorities. At this program, students were told to raise their hands and chant ‘Alleluia….Alleluia’. During the programs, some students fainted, some of them started puking. After the program, many students complained of uneasiness. Thus, parents got alarmed and came together to question the school authorities. This also created confusion in the minds of parents whether they should allow their wards to continue studying in the school or seek an alternative.

An agitation was staged against the school authorities with the help of Hindu organisations and like-minded individuals. The Hindu Janajagagruti Samiti (HJS ) also participated in this agitation. Due to this agitation, the principal of the school Father A. Paul Sagayam tendered an apology letter to the agitators saying, "We are extremely sorry for hurting your religious sentiments and we promise that we will be more careful in future."

(Congratulations to the agitators for standing strong against the school authorities and asking them to seek forgiveness. - Editor)
