'Yada Kadachit' show cancelled

June 13, 2007

Sangali: At the local Bhave theatre, Marathi play 'Yada Kadachit' written and directed by Shri. Santosh Pawar was to be staged; however, owing to opposition by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and other Hindu organizations, the organizers had to cancel the show.

As HJS and other Hindu organizations came to know about the show of the controversial play, their members met Shri. Rajendra Chavan, the District Collector and gave him a representation that incidents from Ramayana and Mahabharata have been ridiculed in the play. Impromptu dialogues are also added by actors. All this is objectionable and hurts religious feelings of Hindus; it was demanded in the representation. Shri. Chavan expressed his displeasure towards staging such play and immediately issued orders to the Resident District Collector to get a report from the police in the matter. Later, members of HJS and other Hindu oragnisations called on the Superintendent of Police (SP) and discussed the issue with him and requested him to not grant permission to the play unless the original script of the play was checked. Shri. Sandip Sutar of Shiv Sena said that shows of the play were cancelled earlier at Aurangabad, Parbhani and Sangali. Although the producers say that the script is modified; same incidents are enacted without revising the script and the denigration goes on and nobody cares for feelings of Hindus.

The SP first thanked the agitators for following legal and peaceful manner in protesting against the play. He said that as the Censors have granted permission to this play, he would call for a copy of the original script. Two staff members from the police dept. would watch the play and will file a case if anything outside the script or any objectionable matter is found. The SP also agreed to the demand of devout Hindus to video-record the play and assured them that action will be taken against the concerned if anything objectionable is found. The Hindu devout also met Dy. District Collector and demanded to cancel the show. Finally the show was cancelled.
